Marillion Enlighten York In Live Return
arts Marillion understands the art of emotional slow-burn better than most bands. More than four decades into their career, they remain masters of turning a concert hall into something approaching a shared state of mind – intimate one moment, overwhelming the next. As the band arrived at the Barbican in York, fresh from their summer concerts at the amphitheatre in Pompeii, they sounded anything but nostalgic. Yes, their own history is impossible to ignore, but the performance is not a victory lap.

Leeds Festival Goes Pop
arts Leeds Festival Photo: Graham Clark For anyone who went to the Leeds Festival a few years ago, the line-up of the 2026 Festival would have been seen as incomprehensible; whilst in the past the festival always tendered to favour rock and indie acts, the emphasis was more on dance, rap and pop artists. The festival has become a rite of passage for youngsters who are celebrating their GCSE exam results.

The band released their new album Walk Between Worlds earlier this year. As part of a European tour the band are playing a gig at Leeds Millennium Square on Saturday 11 August. I spoke to guitarist Charlie Burchill about the Leeds gig and also what the band have been up to.
