Through his work, he has combined experience in baseball operations, analytics, player development, and business management to create services that support athletes and their families.
In 2025, Sam launched Campus Edge Baseball to provide personalized recruiting guidance to ambitious baseball players. Since founding the company, he has focused on building a comprehensive recruiting platform that combines technology, research, and direct industry relationships. The organization offers customized support while helping athletes increase their visibility among college coaches.
As CEO, Menzin oversees virtually every aspect of the business. His responsibilities include sales, marketing, website management, social media strategy, client onboarding, analytics, financial oversight, video optimization, and NCAA compliance. He has also developed proprietary recruiting tools, including athlete profiles, coach and school databases, school-matching applications, and recruiting strategy resources.
A key part of his work involves maintaining relationships with coaches across Division I, Division II, Division III, and junior college programs. Sam regularly collaborates with baseball showcase organizations and uses data-driven marketing strategies to help athletes gain exposure. Through targeted email campaigns, social media initiatives, and video content, he works to improve recruiting outcomes for his clients.
Beyond Campus Edge Baseball, he serves as an analyst with Woods Capital and is the founder and principal of SJM Sports. Through SJM Sports, he advises investors, ownership groups, and private equity firms that are evaluating sports-related investments, acquisitions, and operational opportunities. His experience allows him to provide insights into both the competitive and business sides of the sports industry.
His interest in baseball began at an early age and grew stronger during his teenage years. Reading Moneyball introduced him to the analytical side of the sport and sparked a lasting fascination with player evaluation, roster construction, and decision-making. That experience helped shape his long-term career aspirations and influenced the direction of his professional journey.
While attending Swarthmore College, Menzin played four years of varsity baseball. His dedication to teamwork and sportsmanship earned him the 2012 Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Award. The experience reinforced values that would later guide his leadership style and professional approach.
During college, Sam also worked as an Assistant Director at the Complete Game Institute. In that role, he managed the Pitching Biomechanics Facility, organized pitching camps, and worked with high-speed video technology. This hands-on experience expanded his understanding of athlete development and performance analysis.
His professional development included internships with several respected organizations in professional baseball and sports management.
With the New York Mets, Menzin worked in Corporate Sales, supporting client relations, stadium activations, sales initiatives, and special event operations. The position provided exposure to the business side of professional sports and helped develop his communication and relationship-building skills.
Sam also spent two years with Turner-Gary Sports in Baseball Operations. Working closely with experienced professionals, he gained insight into player representation, salary arbitration, contract negotiations, market analysis, and free-agent strategy. During this period, he also contributed statistical analysis and assisted with website development for the agency.
In 2012, he joined the Detroit Tigers as an intern in Baseball Operations. His responsibilities included assisting with salary arbitration preparation, supporting negotiation research, analyzing player acquisition opportunities, and evaluating potential trade targets. This opportunity served as the foundation for a long and successful career within the organization.
His time with the Detroit Tigers spanned 14 years and showcased a steady progression through increasingly important leadership positions. Beginning as an intern, Sam advanced through roles including analyst, coordinator, and director before being named Vice President and Assistant General Manager in 2021 at the age of 31.
In this leadership position, he supervised multiple departments, including scouting, medical services, player performance, and player experience. He played a significant role in player acquisition, salary arbitration, and contract negotiations while helping guide organizational strategy.
His responsibilities also extended beyond baseball operations. He managed more than $100 million in capital investment initiatives and served as an important organizational leader during periods of transition. His ability to work across departments demonstrated both operational expertise and strong leadership skills.
Education has remained an important part of his development throughout his career. Menzin earned a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Psychology from Swarthmore College. During his undergraduate studies, he also participated in a study abroad program in Rome, Italy, which broadened his perspective and cultural understanding.
Sam is currently pursuing an Executive Master of Business Administration through the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College in New York. He is expected to graduate in 2027. The program complements his extensive professional experience and supports his continued growth as an executive and entrepreneur.
Raised in Westbury, New York, he attended Friends Academy High School, an independent college preparatory school known for its strong academic environment and emphasis on personal development.
His interests closely reflect his professional background. Menzin enjoys studying baseball operations, player evaluation, statistical analysis, sports investments, contract negotiations, and organizational strategy. He is also interested in construction and design projects.
Outside of work, he enjoys cooking, running, skiing, biking, yoga, and chess. Chess played an important role in his childhood, and he competed in the game at a young age. These activities continue to provide balance alongside his professional responsibilities.
Community service is also important to him. In 2023, Sam Menzin completed the Detroit Marathon and raised $17,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. He has additionally volunteered with NOSH Food Kitchen in Glen Cove, New York, and Mission City in Detroit. Through both professional achievements and community involvement, he continues to build a career centered on leadership, service, and meaningful impact within the sports industry.
