Purple Row after dark: 9 clones
I spend too much time on the internet. That has become clear to me, especially over the last year or so. However, occasionally the internet brings good ideas! And that was the case last week. I was scrolling through Threads and came across this question: So I'd like to rephrase this for baseball into four questions: If you had to create a Rockies team using nine clones of exactly one current player playing all positions, which player do you think would create the most successful team?

Purple Row after dark: What's the Rockies story you're dying to read?
Purple Row is a fan blog. It's also a fan blog privileged enough to have access to cover games in person from time to time. Usually when this happens, we talk as a staff about which players the person going to the game should talk to, and what they should ask. This process works, but it's also limited to the interests of a few people. Another characteristic about Purple Row is that it's a community of readers who are every bit as knowledgeable about the Rockies as the staff.

Mike “Tiny” Pontarelli is the engine that makes the Rockies’ clubhouse run Original
Managing all of the Colorado Rockies gear is a big task, one that falls to Mike “Tiny” Pontarelli, Assistant Director of the Major League Clubhouse. (You may remember from earlier this season, Renee Dechert wrote about the Rockies’ home run coat.
Purple Row after dark: What if MLB adopted a designated fielder?
In 2022, Major League Baseball adopted the universal designated hitter for both the American and National Leagues. This eliminated the need for pitchers to hit, and changed the strategy of lineup construction and late-inning substitutions. Throughout this 2026 season, there have been numerous occasions where the Rockies had a player who was hot at the plate but a liability on defense. This made me think: What if Major League Baseball adopted a Designated Fielder?

Rockies strike first, but some late-inning defensive weirdness allows Atlanta to prevail 2-1
The Colorado Rockies had a chance to steal a win in Atlanta this afternoon after, but ultimately it turned out to be Atlanta who came out on top. The Rockies pitching staff performed well for the first seven innings, but it came down to some late-inning weird outfield defense that allowed the Braves to snatch a 2-1 victory. Agnos & Co. Zach Agnos was called upon right before first pitch to start in place of Ryan Feltner, who was dealing with an illness overnight and was unable to play.
Colorado Rockies at Atlanta Braves game discussion: Zach Agnos vs. Martín Pérez
The Rockies will look to bounce back after last night's 6-4 loss to the Atlanta Braves . The Rox put up a fight, but went just 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position and ran into Atlanta's stellar defense (namely Ozzie Albies at second base). The Rockies have yet to win a game against the Braves this year, and have gone just 6-24 since 2022 (3-11 in Atlanta). They're also in the middle of a 13-game stretch without an off-day, going just 2-6 so far.

Guardians spoil Larry Walker's statue unveiling, beat Rockies 7-2
On a day full of celebration at the unveiling of Larry Walker's new statue outside Coors Field, the Rockies could not keep up the excitement inside. It was the Rockies' ninth-straight loss at home — the first time it'd happened since 1993 at Mile High Stadium, and the first time it'd happened at Coors Field — and they were officially swept in three-straight series for the first time in franchise history.
Cleveland Guardians at Colorado Rockies game discussion: Foster Griffin vs. Tomoyuki Sugano
The Colorado Rockies have been sputtering lately, losing five straight games and eight overall at home. They won 13-7 in San Francisco last Sunday, and will look to avoid an 0-6 homestand this afternoon against the Cleveland Guardians. Their eight consecutive losses at Coors Field are tied for the second-longest home losing streak in franchise history, with the record being a nine-game losing streak in 1993 at Mile High Stadium.

There are just 35 games remaining in the 2026 season, if you can believe that! The Colorado Rockies are sitting at 50-77 after an unfortunate sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Dodgers. They need 13 more wins to avoid 100 losses for the fourth straight year, and the overwhelming majority of Rockies fans believe they will do it. Do you still think they'll do it?

Kyle Karros, Cole Carrigg, and the Power of Friendship Original
If you’ve watched any Colorado Rockies game over the past two months, you’ll have seen third baseman Kyle Karros and outfielder Cole Carrigg on the field together. Both were drafted in 2023 – Carrigg in the Competitive Balance B round and Karros in the fifth round – and worked their way up through the minors at nearly the same pace. Karros broke through to the majors a little bit before Carrigg, but the two were reunited in June.

Six weeks of "The Cole Carrigg Effect"
It's been just over six weeks since Cole Carrigg ( No. 4 PuRP ) made his Major League debut . He has played in 39 games, and the “Cole Carrigg Effect” is in full swing. Carrigg has been known to play “with his hair on fire” and hasn't shown many signs of slowing down in the big leagues — both on and off the field.

On June 27 against the Minnesota Twins on the road, Carrigg entered in the sixth inning as a pinch hitter for Troy Johnston. He went 0-for-1 with a walk and a looking strikeout. The Rockies won 8-5. On July 1 against the Miami Marlins at home, Carrigg entered in the eighth inning as a defensive substitution for Troy Johnston. He did not have an at-bat, and the Rockies won 6-3.
