What to read to become more creative
Creativity is both prized and puzzling. Although associated with certain qualities—imagination, originality, artistic flair—it defies easy definition. Many philosophers contend that if a product (an artwork, a technological invention, a mathematical solution or a mere idea) is creative, it must be both new and valuable. Intention is also important: most would agree that a snowflake is not creative, nor a work composed by artificial intelligence. But beyond that there is little consensus.

By the time I graduated college, the conventional wisdom among those who loved to reject conventional wisdom was not only that being creative was a good thing but that creative people were going to inherit the earth. A recent crop of cocktail-party nonfiction about Right-Brainers and Bourgeoise Bohemians and something called the Creative Class said the age of rule-loving “organization men” had passed, leaving the field to those who rebelled against the status quo.

Osborn was not known as a “creative man,” the industry term for a copywriter or an artist, but he believed he had discovered the secrets of creative thinking.

A sound intervention
I'VE ENJOYED working with so many of my hospice patients over the years, but one in particular I'll never forget. Miss Bee, as she was known throughout her community, was nearly 100 years old. She was a living legend in town. Her father was one of the town's founders and a local war hero.
