The pH-dependant stabilization and interphase coupling of Pd species during alcohol oxidation
Abstract Heterogeneous catalysts consistently suffer from the leaching of active components into the fluid phase, causing loss in activity and lifetime. Here we demonstrate, exemplified with the thermocatalytic oxidation of 1,2-propanediol, a metal stabilization mechanism arising from electrochemical coupling of half reactions between physically separated carbon-supported Au and Pd catalysts.
Atomic-resolution imaging of gold species at organic liquid-solid interfaces
|
Editor’s summary Interactions between adsorbed gold atoms, a graphite support, and organic solvents have been revealed by atomic-resolution environmental transmission electron microscopy. Sullivan-Allsop et al. encapsulated patterned hexagonal boron nitride within thin graphite layers to create solvent wells with the same gold concentrations.

Uncovering Cooperative Redox Enhancement Effects in Bimetallic Catalysis
“Synergistic” Rate Enhancements Using Au and Pd Catalysts Click to copy section linkSection link copied! Precious or noble metals make up over 70% of the heterogeneous catalysis market. (17) Using multimetallic systems is one approach that has historically improved the performance of noble metals catalysts. These systems consistently outperform their monometallic counterparts.
Correction: Adipic acid formation from cyclohexanediol using platinum and vanadium catalysts: elucidating the role of homogeneous vanadium species
Correction: Adipic acid formation from cyclohexanediol using platinum and vanadium catalysts: elucidating the role of homogeneous vanadium species Correction for ‘Adipic acid formation from cyclohexanediol using platinum and vanadium catalysts: elucidating the role of homogeneous vanadium species’ by Owen Rogers et al., Catal. Adipic acid formation from cyclohexanediol using vanadium catalysts: Elucidating the role of homogeneous species
Adipic acid formation from cyclohexanediol using vanadium catalysts: Elucidating the role of homogeneous species Vanadium compounds have shown great potential alongside Pt/C for the oxidation of cyclohexanediol to adipic acid. However, the low stability of these materials often leads to ambiguity when considering the homogeneous or heterogeneous nature of the active species.
Enhancement in the rate of nitrate degradation on Au- and Ag-decorated TiO2 photocatalysts
Enhancement in the rate of nitrate degradation on Au- and Ag-decorated TiO2 photocatalysts The solar-driven reduction of nitrate to nitrogen has been studied in the presence of a formate hole scavenger, over a series of Au- and Ag-decorated TiO2 catalysts. In this study, the catalyst preparation protocol was found to influence the nitrate transformation in the order: incipient wetness impregnation > stabilizer-free sol immobilization > sol immobilization.
Efficient Elimination of Chlorinated Organics on a Phosphoric Acid Modified CeO2 Catalyst: A Hydrolytic Destruction Route
The development of efficient technologies to prevent the emission of hazardous chlorinated organics from industrial sources without forming harmful byproducts, such as dioxins, is a major challenge in environmental chemistry.
Microwave synthesis of ZnIn2S4/WS2 composites for photocatalytic hydrogen production and hexavalent chromium reduction
Microwave synthesis of ZnIn2S4/WS2 composites for photocatalytic hydrogen production and hexavalent chromium reduction Watcharapong Pudkon, Sulawan Kaowphong, Samuel Pattisson, Peter Miedziak, Hasliza Bahruji, Thomas Davies, David John Morgan and Graham Hutchings Abstract A rapid microwave synthesis route for the fabrication of ZnIn2S4 powder and ZnIn2S4/WS2 composite is presented.
Cinnamyl alcohol oxidation using supported bimetallic Au-Pd nanoparticles: an investigation of autoxidation and catalysis
In this study we examine the autoxidation and its role on the catalytic aerobic oxidation of cinnamyl alcohol using supported AuPd nanoparticles. We further report the crucial role of reaction conditions on the reaction pathway. Close attention is paid to the mechanism of benzaldehyde formation, a by-product formed in large quantities from the process of autoxidation.
Tuning graphitic oxide for initiator- and metal-free aerobic epoxidation of linear alkenes
Initial studies were conducted using a partially oxidized GO prepared using a modified HO method, in which potassium chlorate (20 g per 5 g of graphite) was used (GO-HO20) in place of the standard 55 g per 5 g of graphite (GO-HO55) that is used in most preparations.
