The Heat Transition: Investment Opportunities and the Legal Framework in Germany - Part 1
Introduction The conversion and expansion of heating (and cooling) infrastructure, particularly in relation to district heating networks and generation plants, is one of the largest areas of investment in Europe. Across Europe and beyond, heat decarbonisation is emerging as a key priority globally, as countries seek to transition their heat supply towards more climate-friendly, lower-emission technologies in order to meet climate neutrality targets.

Dynamic optical coherence tomography for imaging acute wound healing
1 INTRODUCTION Acute wounds generally heal faster than chronic wounds. Good blood and oxygen supply are the most important components for successful wound healing. Therefore, the study of blood vessels is essential for understanding the wound healing process. At the beginning of wound healing, haemostasis plays a major role, and over time, the transport of metabolites leads to the nutrition and immune defence of wound tissue.1 Split-thickness skin grafts have a thickness of about 0.4 mm.
Germany mandates switch to heating via renewables with Building Energy Act amendment
The legislation, which supports Germany’s decarbonisation plans, was passed by the Bundestag on 8 September 2023. Subject to exceptions, it will apply from 1 January 2024. The amendment is the second update made to the Building Energy Act since it came into force on 1 November 1 2020. The Act contains, among other things, requirements for the energy quality of buildings, the preparation and use of energy certificates and the use of renewable energies in buildings.
Dynamic Optical Coherence Tomography of Blood Vessels in Cutaneous Melanoma-Correlation with Histology, Immunohistochemistry and Dermoscopy
1. Introduction Despite all public awareness, intervention and screening programs, the incidence of cutaneous melanoma is still rising fast, especially in Europe, North America and Australia. Thin melanomas are generally cured by simple surgery, while thicker melanomas with high-risk features tend to develop metastases to a great extent. So far, the predominant part of risk assessment for melanomas takes place ex vivo, i.e., after excision.

How efficient is laser therapy for telangiectasias, spider veins, and cherry angiomas?-A study using dynamic optical coherence tomography
Abstract Objectives A clinical study to investigate the effectiveness of pulsed dye laser (PDL) versus Nd:YAG laser in the treatment of telangiectasias, spider veins and cherry angiomas. Dynamic optical coherence tomography (D-OCT) was introduced as an innovative follow-up tool for evaluation of blood flow within superficial vessels and to allow visualization of morphological changes of the vasculature in vivo.
Outbound foreign investment regime on the horizon in the EU
Traditionally, national foreign direct investment (FDI) laws have focused on regulating and controlling foreign investment in domestic companies to protect national security, critical infrastructure, and other sensitive sectors. It used to be common practice for domestic companies not to export their most advanced equipment and technologies abroad. This was to avoid, among other things, knowledge leakage and copying of their technologies by foreign companies.
Pinsent Masons advises Kearney on acquisition of TEAMS Design
The transaction was complex from the beginning including a comprehensive preclosing restructuring process that integrated minority shareholdings from the USA, China and Germany. The Pinsent Masons team advising on the deal was made up of a cross-border team from Germany and China and advised on US legal matters with the support from the US law firm Sidley. The firm advised Kearney on all aspects of the acquisition including tax, IP, competition, employment and property law-related advice.

How stricter rules on foreign investment screening impact tech M&A in Europe
Out-Law Analysis | 19 Oct 2021 | 10:25 am | 8 min. read Many European countries have recently tightened their foreign investment control (FIC) regimes. This has a particular impact on transactions in the technology sector. As technology companies are often considered part of a country’s critical infrastructure, the acquisition or partial acquisition of such companies is often subject to strict requirements, with severe penalties for non-compliance.
Germany strengthens foreign investment controls
The German government intends to tighten the rules on foreign direct investment control by extending the list of businesses whose acquisition must be notified to the German Ministry of Economics. The acquisition of control rights will also trigger an investment review. The German Ministry of Economics and Energy (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie/BMWi) has published a draft bill to change the Foreign Trade and Payments Ordinance (Außenwirtschaftsverordnung/AWV).
