Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

Reporter at the Dunfermline Press.

How is social media changing news?

Exciting when it's from verified trusted sources, in real-time.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Email sandradickmedia@gmail.com

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter however it's becoming too 'noisy'.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

John Major was Prime Minister, I found his sister living in a very basic flat on benefits refusing to pay her poll tax. Daily Mirror splash.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Never give up. You're probably better than you think. Don't expect to ever be rich. Try not to punch anyone.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Any time. Am always online.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

The tip-off that led me to find the then Prime Minister John Major's sister living in a bedsit and beautifully outspoken.

Never anywhere else.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

My inbox. Daily Mail features, The Times, Guardian.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That we're hard nosed and have no soul. Not the case. Journalists are human too.
