In search of the holy grAIl
‘tis the season of AI in healthcare. Microsoft dropped a cool $16 billion on voice-recognition software provider Nuance last week. The news dominated the airwaves the entire week. Microsoft, which hasn’t had much success with its own Cortana offerings, has been partnering with Nuance in the past couple of years to implement voice-enabled digital assistants in doctor offices. The acquisition is positioned as an AI play for Microsoft in healthcare.
Selecting Technology Partners to Execute Digital Strategy
Health systems looking to accelerate their digital transformation need to develop strategic partnerships with technology providers. However, fundamental questions about vendor strategy remain hard to answer. How many vendors should be part of the journey? How should we leverage EHR platforms? How do we engage with big tech? Should we replace parts of our existing technology stack? How do we manage the risks of digital health startups while leveraging innovation?

What will ensure the continued ascent of telehealth technology?
No technology has had such a rapid ascent in adoption in the past year as telehealth. In the early months of the pandemic, telemedicine comprised nearly a third of all visits. The weekly number of visits increased twenty-three-fold compared with the pre-pandemic period. Teladoc, the leading company in the space, reported that its number of visits more than doubled, from 4.1 million in 2019 to an estimated 10.6 million in 2020.
Assessing Digital Maturity: The DigiMTM Digital Maturity Model for Health Systems
The shift to virtual care models has also forced healthcare enterprises to review their organizational models to drive healthcare digital transformation in the post-COVID-19 era. Digital health is an IT-enabled capability; however, it is not necessarily IT-led. Digital transformation requires a deep appreciation of consumer experience journeys, cross-functional collaboration to enable seamless workflows, and robust technology architecture to implement digital roadmaps and priorities.
How to win physician confidence in remote patient monitoring programs
COVID-19 has spurred telehealth and remote patient monitoring adoption across the United States, with 36 percent of the US consumers now using telehealth to replace healthcare visits. While this has created an opportunity for health systems to digitally transform their care delivery model, not all health systems have the right resources and the organizational support to drive this change.
With telehealth, one size won't fit all
The pandemic has given us, among other things, a new buzzword: the “next normal.” As health systems adjusted to dramatic increases in virtual visits, they experienced a steep learning curve in a very short time. Some of this shift to virtual care will be permanent. A significant percentage of ambulatory care will never return to a clinic.
Why healthcare needs to look at Starbucks
We head into a week that will be dominated by the U.S. Presidential elections. If you are an American, please vote if you haven’t already done so. In Q3 of this year, mobile orders accounted for a record 22% of sales for coffee company Starbucks, even as delivery orders tripled from the previous quarter. During the same period, global same-store sales sank by 40%. Starbucks also encouraged its customers to order via its app as a way to promote “contactless” transactions.
Healthcare gets ready for a Starbucks and BOPIS revolution
A few months ago, who would have thought that going into a hospital or clinic to meet with your doctor would be considered a high-risk experience? And yet, here we are. COVID-19 has forced the entire health care sector to adopt low-contact and contactless experiences for the safety of patients and caregivers alike – an unexpected outcome of the pandemic experience.
Big tech’s big play on telehealth and digital ‘front doors’
In the wake of the pandemic, healthcare has seen dramatic shifts in how patients access and receive care. Technology has become a more critical enabler than before in ensuring patients can easily access care – a fundamental challenge for the primary care market, which is arguably the most contested competitive space in healthcare today.

Beyond the Digital Front Door: The Digital House
The Floor Plan for a Digital House How might a health system design such a digital house? The website would be the front door, patient portals would be a convenient side entrance, the patient access system would be a front porch, the reg/sched system the front hall. The EHR system, underpinning all clinical care, is the basement. The revenue cycle system would be the living room.

Livongo and Teladoc merger: a catalyst for accelerating healthcare’s digital transformation
Are we in the midst of a broad-based restructuring of the digital healthcare sector? When digital health companies Livongo and Teladoc announced their $38 billion merger earlier this month, there was a predictable gushing of praise for the deal and a sense of coming-of-age for digital health startups in general. “Perfect merger,” “huge leap forward for digital health,” were some of the phrases used to describe the merger.
COVID-19 as Catalyst: The Journey Ahead for Health Systems
DISTRIBUTED CARE & DIGITAL HEALTH The surge in virtual care brought on by COVID-19 will begin an era of decentralization powered by virtual modalities and enablers of care in the home and certainly outside the health care facility. This will require new payment, regulatory, operating models, and frictionless, connected experience to maintain and sustain digital adoption and distributed care models among patients and providers.
Interoperability for improved care coordination amid COVID 19
COVID-19 has brought up the issue of fragmented health information again, making interoperability of health data paramount. Therefore, there could have been no better time for the interoperability and patient access rule. The rule helps improve the decision-making process for physicians and health systems by connecting siloed information across the care continuum.
Defining the post-COVID-19 digital transformation of healthcare
In the wake of COVID-19, the initial scramble to lock down hospitals and clinics and switch to a predominantly remote care model is now giving way to a more measured assessment of healthcare needs of the population, evaluation of the care delivery models using telehealth technologies as enablers, and a long-term survival strategy for hospitals and health systems.
Virtual collaboration during COVID-19 pandemic – how we were always ready for it - Damo Consulting
After a few months of dedication and commitment towards Microsoft Teams and SharePoint, we had figured out Teams as the platform for internal collaboration. After which, there was no looking back. By then, as a team we had started putting in efforts to further optimize MS Teams. We were now all committed to it. The next challenge before us was the work culture itself. In a typical office situation, you have a manager to supervise you, who is also held accountable for your timetable and deliverables.
