And that's why this week's episode of The Message celebrates the best releases of 2019 thus far, with music from Anderson Paak, Lizzo, Lady Midnight, Khalid, Tyler The Creator and Nicole Bus. Hosts Sanni Brown and Sean McPherson each shared their picks for the first half of 2019.

Aaron Aye (MPR Photo | Nate Ryan) | 00:20:11 About 18 minutes into our conversation with Aaron Aye, when speaking about his heroes like Prince and Michael Jackson, Aaron said he admired that "they never let what was the norm stop them from being what they needed to be." It's a simple statement, but one that is inspiring to hear from a young artist just getting his start. That willingness to be uncompromisingly singular is what I believe will separate Aaron from the pack in the coming years.
Four Fists share protest strategy, rap bangers in The Current studio
P.O.S and Astronautalis have both performed in The Current's studio — but never at the same time. This week, they join hosts Sean McPherson and Sanni Brown on hip-hop/R&B program The Message to talk about their album 6666 and perform the title track, plus "Joe Strummr" and "Dork Court." As most fans know, Four Fists dropped their first two songs in 2013 and couldn't make an album happen until 2018. As much as folks yearned for the music, this session hints why the wait may have been a good thing.
