What was your first job as a journalist?
My first paying job occurred in April 2020, writing for SHRM. I kept pitching stories.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes! I still have my first typewriter. With a roller-side desk, it has two folding arms on each side, is made out of metal with a rubber top
How is social media changing news?
Verification of photos, video footage, and data and information is paramount. There are now orgs that focus on fact-checking posts.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Jessica B. Fletcher, although she's an author.
What does it mean to be a journalist?
Taking down the man.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
I didn't know the "news media" had a sense of humor.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
LinkedIn messages, email, texting, phone calls, and social DMs.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
The usual: Google Docs. The new: ChatGPT. I research news stories to make sure I'm not pitching a story that's already been published.
What's your favorite social network?
LinkedIn, FB Groups, Instagram, Reddit, Threads, etc.

Meryl Streep and Angela Lansbury. Whoops! Who's still alive?
Why did you become a journalist?
To take down the man.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
No, I did not write for my school newspaper. I did, however, publish a blog in my Senior year's yearbook under the reflections.

What's the best pitch you ever got?
I received a PR pitch as I was finishing a story to file. The story needed the source, so it was perfect timing.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
Anything that is irrelevant to what I cover: fashion, beauty, products, etc.
What's your favorite drink?
Do you mean alcoholic? I enjoy white wine, such as a Riesling or Pinot Grigio.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
On my recliner with my cat.

Inc. Magazine, Business Insider, SHRM, Texas Observer, JSTOR Daily, Stacker, Mother Jones, Substack stuff, etc.
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
I'd have to ask around, which I haven't done.
