Sarah A Jeffreys is a medical researcher with a passion for science communication. Sarah recently submitted her PhD (Medicine) thesis, "Blood Based Biomarkers in Breast Cancer", at Western Sydney University. In 2015, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science with Honours, majoring in Biochemistry at the University of Tasmania.
COMMUNICATION EXPERIENCE
As a PhD student, I have demonstrated outstanding written communication skills, exemplified in research manuscripts, conference posters, grant applications, website content, guides, presentation slides and my thesis as well as standard operating procedures and risk assessments. My exceptional skills in editing and proofreading are frequently sought after by fellow students and academics.
I regularly present research findings at conferences, university seminars, and group meetings with confidence gained from years of experience. Over the past five years, I have regularly attended and submitted abstracts to several conferences, including the Thomas Ashworth Symposium CTC & Liquid Biopsy (2017-2021), Sydney Cancer Conference (2021), NSW Cancer Conference (2022), Health Beyond Research and Innovation (2017-2019) and the CONCERT Translational Cancer Research Workshop (2018). I am also actively involved in communicating scientific concepts to members of the public; I lead laboratory tours, present my research to high school and undergraduate students and share my findings with scholarship donor (Liverpool Catholic Club) board members. I participate in media engagements at the Ingham Institute with the marketing team, including STEM Career and Liverpool City Council promotional videos, and discussing my research with Sunrise presenters and ABC Radio journalists.
At the Ingham Institute I have established good rapport with fellow students, academics, clinicians, and patients; attributable to my cheery and bubbly, yet caring and attentive, nature.
