NEON Asian Street Style
Street Food seems to be all the rage nowadays, and whilst I do still love a good sit down restaurant experience, I have also come to enjoy this new style - even more so when the food is high quality but the price is low. This is exactly what you get at Neon "Asian Street Style" in Broadbeach - it offers modern asian fusion style food, at a very reasonable price, in easy to eat containers. They also only use local fresh produce which is all cooked and prepared fresh on site.
Smileez Playhouse & Cafe
by Sarah Says (subscribe) I am a marketing and communications consultant and freelance writer. Living on the Gold Coast in Australia. Check out my website www.sarahsays.com.au or follow on Twitter @WENGoldCoast Published April 12th 2015 Jump, Bounce, Climb, Swing and Slide I have often found that, on a rainy day on the Gold Coast, apart from the mall, there is fairly little to do with toddlers, which is why it is great to find places like Smileez Playhouse and Cafe, in Parkwood.
Bellakai Coolangatta
I had been here once before for breakfast about a year ago, but on returning to Coolangatta recently, apart from its location, I couldn't remember much about it. Luckily for us we turned down the right street, and I am so glad I suggested to go back as the food was simply exceptional. Bellakai is a modern restaurant and cafe located on marine parade, offering breakfast from 5am, lunch and dinner till late, although I believe they close earlier on Sundays.
Elston Restaurant & Wine Bar
It seems like you blink, and a new eatery has opened in Surfers Paradise - a result of the upcoming 2018 Commonwealth Games perhaps? Whatever it is, I am delighted for any new restaurants that are a step above the fried and fast food places, the bars with pokies or surf clubs. Not that there is anything wrong with those, but, I believe it is important for an area to have a variety of places that cater for different moods, people and occasions.
WokinaBox Broadbeach
You know the feeling when you order a takeaway meal, whatever style, and you get all excited (or is that just me) and then it doesn't live up to expectations, well wokinabox exceeded mine. An Asian Fusion takeaway restaurant that prides itself on great taste, authentic Asian dishes and fresh ingredients. All dishes are made to order and over a real, fiery wok. It offers the best in Chinese, Thai and Japanese food.
Hurricane's Grill, Surfers Paradise
Another excellent restaurant opened in the Soul Complex in Surfers Paradise, located on The Esplanade. Hurricane's Grill is one floor up from ground level and as you would expect it is all part-open glass frontage, so it makes the most of the stunning beach views. It is a steakhouse style grill so expect steaks, chicken, ribs, burgers and chips and baked potatoes on the menu, as well as sides such as corncobs and steamed greens.
Recreate Yourself Hair and Beauty Salon
I recently visited Recreate Yourself Salon and was very impressed with what I experienced. Usually I don't really enjoy getting my hair done, as I find it fairly tedious and expensive. But I found this place excellent on many levels, it has been voted the Number 1 Salon on the Gold Coast and you can see why. Since living on the Gold Coast this certainly has been the best salon I have visited and one of the main reasons why, is the amount of added value you get included in your visit.
The Cuban - Bar & Lounge Dining
I can't say I was terribly impressed with the place.. The decor is cool, the staff were friendly enough (but we had to ask for some things twice), and the food was okay: but the real stinger for me was the portion size. Pan-fried potato & wild mushroom - $8 - there were literally five (!) small pieces of potato in this tiny tapas. Likewise the $5 smoky almonds was a tiny serve. The vegetarian options need a bit of polish too.
Chermside Court Motel
I recently stayed at Chermside Court Motel in North Brisbane when I had booked tickets for a concert at the nearby Brisbane Entertainment Centre and decided to make a night of it rather than coming back to the Goldie. The main selling point whilst I was searching for somewhere was that it was cheap and close to public transport to get me around and near the venue, so I had no real expectation on quality.
Vapiano Italian Restaurant
Brisbane is the first city in the southern hemisphere to open a local franchise of German-based Vapiano Its great when something you thought you'd previously have to travel overseas for opens up on your doorstep. No longer are the Europeans the only ones lucky enough to enjoy the unique dining concept of Vapiano.
Royal Pines Resort
I went here for a conference recently and was lucky enough to get the opportunity to stay in the hotel for the night. It is a really impressive resort which covers 100-hectares and is set on beautiful gardens and a world-class golf course. Located on Ross Street in Benowa, it is hidden away midway between the stunning sandy coast of Surfers Paradise and the nearby lush hinterland rainforest.
