What was your first job as a journalist?

My first job was with a digital publication called PinnedxStitched where I was a current events editor and writer at age 17.

It has completely altered the level of discernment our audience has regarding what they read but also changed the level of accessibility.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To be loyal to the craft, faithful in your work/output and hopeful for change through the written word.

Why did you become a journalist?

Because storytelling is important and is powerful enough to shift mindsets, encourage dialogue and document history.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

No, we did not have one.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

My controversial clapback on toxic masculinity through the lens of EBONY's Jonathan Majors cover.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Remain true to yourself and your voice. You can always change publications but it's hard to alter your perceived integrity once compromised.

When's the best time to pitch you?

After 11 AM CT and before 6 PM CT.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

To interview one of my heroes Henry Louis Gates.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

A pitch with my name spelled wrong promoting derogatory stereotypes about the Black community.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

Culture in the Black media space automatically means "Black culture" and does not properly include its varying intersections.
