Sayyara is a journalist (she/her) who currently works as an open-source researcher at the Atlantic Council's DFRLab focused on South Caucasus and Eastern Europe, with a particular focus on disinformation trends and malign influence operations.
She started her career as a journalist, producing multimedia pieces that covered a range of topics. She then served as an editor-in-chief at a blockchain-focused media outlet, where she led a team of journalists covering cryptocurrencies, blockchain-based projects, and scams.
Sayyara then joined an International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) member organization based in Turkey where she produced fact-checks related to Turkey and Azerbaijan. During her time there, she also covered mis- and disinformation during crisis times such as the second Karabakh war, the Covid pandemic.
She uses open-source methods to identify and track disinformation campaigns and malign influence operations in her current role. She seeks to promote the importance of accurate, trustworthy information in countering the spread of disinformation and malign influence operations.
