Popular Photography Magazine — If you're shooting film already, you know that you need to develop a tolerance for uncertainty. Film can be fogged, or wrecked in development. Your shutter might drag or the mirror not swing up correctly. Without an LCD screen built into the camera, you have no way to check whether you got the shot-you've put your faith in your camera, your skill, and your film. It's like doing a trust fall every time you release the shutter. Using expired film compounds the uncertainty, like jumping from an airplane with a parachute you just bought at an army surplus store.

schneidan.com — I've been carrying the Nikon FM2n around for just over a year since Dean Krakel plopped it on my desk and I started shooting. It's been nothing short of awesome. Dean is an award-winning photographer (Marlboro man, anyone?) who works as a photo editor at The Denver Post with me. I'm not the least bit shy about my admiration for the photo staff at The Post, and at the Rocky Mountain News where Dean oversaw a team that won three Pulitzers for their work. Colorado is blessed with a host of incredible photographers.

Denver Post — [Lead Developer on this project] It is frustrating to advocates for homeless children that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development does not count kids living in other families' living rooms or basements as being homeless, as the U.S. Department of Education does. In one Colorado school district, officials discovered three families sharing the same mobile home; some of the children were sleeping on the ground under the home, after they had boarded up the sides for warmth. When families are not counted as homeless, they often don't qualify for federal housing assistance. And they typically are not tallied on a city's annual, point-in-time homeless count.

The Denver Post — The Denver Post spent four months working on the “Chasing the Beast” story, interviewing more than 20 storm chasers, academics, various experts and family members of the three men killed in the El Reno, Okla., tornado on May 31, 2013. Staff writer Kevin Simpson and staff photographer Kathryn Scott Osler traveled to central Oklahoma to report and gather images from the area where the huge twister swallowed up storm chasers Tim and Paul Samaras and Carl Young. Portions of the narrative are driven by conversation between Tim Samaras and Young that were recorded on video and transcribed by Marc Austin of the National Weather Service. The video itself has not been made public. The account also was informed by aggregated weather data interpreted by storm researcher Gabe Garfield.

Denver Post — So being a geek is mainstream now, apparently. But it didn't take that revelation for seemingly unnerdy industries to start recognizing this growing (and spending) demographic. Since the Tijuana Bibles of the early twentieth century, satire of popular fantasy characters in less-than-virtuous situations has been popping up in all sorts of media. And erotic fan fiction has plagued (or blessed, depending who you are) most popular franchises in recent memory. Now it's the porn film industry's turn.

Denver Post — Reaction to the news of Ben Affleck landing the role of Batman in an upcoming Batman-Superman crossover film has been mixed, at best. Some might say they've been mostly negative. You can skip right to the poll below, if you want. Meme generators probably have been working overtime given the number of Affleck-as-Batman memes popping up this morning. Some of them are really funny, too. Even the L.A. Times took notice. According to Variety, Affleck will be the eighth actor to play Batman, which mean they aren't counting animated and made-for-TV productions. If they were, he'd be at least the 15th according to this list on IMDB.

Denver Post — An 18-year-old woman suspected of stabbing and killing her mother late Wednesday spit on her mother's face the night before the murder, the suspect's father said Thursday. "They were getting into fights all the time," said Robert Guzman, the father of Isabella Guzman. Robert Guzman said police came to his home late Wednesday night and told him that his ex-wife, Yun Mi Hoy, had been killed. Robert Guzman said his ex-wife called the night before the stabbing and said she and her daughter and gotten into a bad fight.

Denver Post — If Jim and Jo Perry's holiday display looks familiar, you're not seeing things. Last year, a news helicopter hovered over the Morrison home the Perrys have shared for nearly 40 years. "Twenty minutes later, a news truck showed up, and we were live on all the news channels at once."

Denver Post — Michael and Jenn Onstott of Commerce City waited for years to have a house they could decorate. They've always enjoyed watching others put up big displays, and seeing kids and families stop to see the glow and the twinkle. In 2012, they got their wish.

Denver Post — This week's Denver Post Holiday Lights winners, Doug and Debi Johnson of Highlands Ranch, started putting up decorations after a move to Chicago more than 20 years ago. While living in Kansas City Doug was inspired to expand his lighting and handmade plywood displays after the first time someone stopped to stare.

Denver Post — Starting late Wednesday night and continuing today, many users of popular microblogging service Twitter are being greeted with a forgotten password screen when attempting to log in or receiving emails indicating that their accounts may have been compromised and requiring a password reset. Many users' first concern is that these e-mails look suspiciously like common phishing emails.

Denver Post — Rescue teams have removed a woman from a saddle between two mountains in Clear Creek County after someone reported she was unresponsive. The woman, who hasn't been identified, was airlifted today by a Flight for Life helicopter from the saddle between Mount Spalding and Grey Wolf Mountain near Mount Evans, said Paul "Woody" Woodward, mission coordinator with the Alpine Rescue Team.

Denver Post — From the fluttering notes of street performer Jentry McCombs' flute to the tight collaborations of the Jeff Brinkman Band, the 16th Street Mall turned into a musical smorgasbord Saturday. Officially dubbed the Denver Day of Rock, the lineup of local and national acts filled five stages - while impromptu musicians filled in the gaps.

Denver Post — A video purporting to show a golden eagle swooping down to snag a baby sitting in a park has been spreading wildly since it was uploaded to YouTube Tuesday. As soon as it started to spread, however, skeptics began pointing out indications that it is faked.
