Hi. I’m Scott Kleinberg, award winning social media strategist, director and thought leader. I'm an experienced editor, writer, consultant, teacher, mentor, content creator and problem solver.
It’s a pleasure to meet you.
I currently serve as Director for Social Media at Carnegie Mellon University’s University Communications & Marketing division, where I lead strategy, oversee brand voice, and guide a team amplifying CMU’s story across platforms through content creation, community engagement, and trend analysis. With more than 18 years pioneering social media since 2007, building on 25+ years as an award-winning journalist, I craft platform-native campaigns, train campus communicators, and drive institutional goals amid evolving digital landscapes. From Chicago Tribune social leadership to NYC mayoral roles and global recognition, I blend analytics, creativity, and crisis savvy to connect universities with audiences.
I have a weekly spot on WGN Radio in Chicago as the social media expert. My work has been recognized around the world. I excel at creating social media strategies and building brands. I have taught millions of people how to be great and smart on social media.
I’m creative and analytical. I go from thinking big picture to getting my hands dirty and back without missing a beat.
I write engaging Facebook updates and focused LinkedIn posts. Plus, I know the difference between the platforms and the kinds of content that perform best on each.
I spent 11 years at the Chicago Tribune, where I led social media strategy, training and content. I won prestigious awards for my use of Twitter and Instagram, and am recognized as an influencer.
My resume even includes director of social media and engagement for the mayor of New York City.
Later, I was social media manager for InvestmentNews in New York, in charge of content, SEO and distribution, plus $500,000 each month in paid social campaigns through Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
B2B. B2C. Everything.
I have 25 years of journalism experience. After reporting, writing, editing and managing, I wanted to try something new. So I set out to create a niche as a social media thought leader.
That's me, a team player who’s at my best under deadline pressure while juggling 20 assignments. My ideas are game changers that keep people talking.
I'm funny, outgoing and results-driven.
I’m enamored by news and current events.
I love dogs, 80s music, photography and all things Apple.
I'd love to meet you. Send me a message.
