Sean Mannix is a seasoned law enforcement professional with 36 years of experience in public safety. He has held several leadership positions, including Assistant Chief of Police in Austin and Chief of Police in Cedar Park, Texas. Throughout his career, he was dedicated to improving policing strategies, implementing advanced training programs, and fostering community leadership. After retiring in 2020, he continued to serve the public as the Statewide Traffic Incident Management Coordinator for the Texas Department of Transportation.
Born in California as one of five children, Sean always knew he wanted to pursue a career in law enforcement. His law enforcement officer father inspired him to follow in his footsteps. At 18, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and developed strong leadership abilities and a solid work ethic.
Sean earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Excelsior College, graduating with honors. He later completed a Master of Arts in Homeland Security from American Military University. He also attended the FBI National Academy, the Leadership Command College, and the Senior Management Institute for Police, along with the LAPD West Point Leadership Program.
After completing his service in the Marine Corps, Sean began his law enforcement career with the Alameda Police Department at the age of 20. He was the youngest officer in the department and spent his early years learning the ropes and handling various patrol duties. In 1993, he moved to Austin, Texas, and joined the Austin Police Department. He rose quickly over the next 20 years, eventually becoming Assistant Chief. His work in Austin was marked by successful crime reduction efforts through the COMPSTAT model, community outreach, and building partnerships with federal agencies like the FBI and DEA.
In 2013, Sean took on the role of Chief of Police for the Cedar Park Police Department, where he focused on community policing and officer training. He introduced innovative programs such as de-escalation training, body-worn cameras, and a wellness program that earned national recognition. Under his leadership, the department became known for its diversity and strong community ties.
Sean gained recognition from national law enforcement organizations during his tenure as Chief. The Cedar Park Police Department earned dual accreditation from the Texas Police Chiefs Association and the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The department was also highly ranked for participating in National Night Out, a nationwide event to build relationships between police and the community.
In 2020, Retired Chief Sean Mannix after more than 30 years in law enforcement. He continues to serve the community through his work with Sigma Tactical Wellness, an organization dedicated to improving the health of first responders. He also supports Williamson County Crime Stoppers. Outside of his professional life, Sean enjoys spending time with his wife and four daughters and pursuing hobbies like aviation, fishing, and reading. He believes in lifelong learning and staying engaged in life.
