Film Review: "Ophelia" is Revisionist, Romantic, Ravishing
You are here: Home / Featured / Film Review: “Ophelia” is Revisionist, Romantic, Ravishing By Peg Aloi Ophelia is moving, intoxicating, haunting: the most visually pleasurable film I’ve seen so far this year. Ophelia, directed by Claire McCarthy and written by Semi Chellas. Screening at West Newton Cinema. Daisy Ridley in the visually opulent “Ophelia.” Shakespeare’s unruly tragedy Hamlet, Prince of Denmark has, to quote a line from a competing playwright, launched a thousand homages and satires.
‘Ophelia’ Review: Out of the Shadows (and Into the Weeds)
In this revisionist take, Shakespeare’s tragic heroine takes matters, and fate, into her own hands. Image From left, Daisy Ridley and Naomi Watts in “Ophelia.” Soon after “Ophelia” opens, the title character is floating face up in a river. The image evokes John Everett Millais’s 1850s painting that shows a supine Ophelia soon after she has drowned. Her pale palms are turned up, flowers spilling out of one hand.
Ophelia - Film (2018)

Ringo’s Drum Roll
I have always been attracted to professions for which I have little talent. Yes, that includes writing, and no, this isn’t false modesty (Say it isn’t so!). Nor do I feel sorry for myself (most of the time). Seen now from my platform of fifty-seven years, this odd propensity, this drift toward arenas where I am not necessary, seems like simple bad luck. Like being born in Cleveland. For a long time (as Proust might say, we’ll get to that in a second), I wanted to be a drummer.
Matthew Weiner, The Art of Screenwriting No. 4
On the set of Mad Men with Jon Hamm during Season 5. Born in 1965, Matthew Weiner is barely old enough to remember the period with which his television series Mad Men has now become almost synonymous. His office is exactly what one might hope for the creator of Don Draper: a stylish mixture of midcentury modern furniture, with a cabinet full of top-shelf liquor.

In Stéphane Dion the Liberals have a new narrator and perhaps a hero. All now depends on the story he tells and how the Canadian everyman reacts. A walk through the streets of the Liberal imagination, where fortunes rise and fall and Stephen Harper lies in wait, ready to pounce
