It's increasingly the way stories get found, rather than on the printed page or by going directly to a website.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

"When the phone rings, answer it." -- Bob Schieffer. He answered a ringing phone on Nov. 22, 1963, and it was Lee Harvey Oswald's mother.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

The Atlantic.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

South Dakota is flat, featureless and boring.
