Coordinating structure-guided design and cis -regulatory optimization to engineer elite herbicide-tolerance alleles in crops
Abstract Genome editing facilitates the rapid creation of elite alleles, yet identifying editable sites for durable trait improvement without functional trade-offs remains challenging. Most current strategies modify a single genetic axis, limiting their effectiveness and stability. Here we developed a dual-layer allele engineering framework integrating structure-guided protein design with precise cis-regulatory tuning to overcome such constraints.
Global patterns of pertussis incidence and vaccination strategies: implications of divergent surveillance data
Abstract Pertussis remains a global threat for infants, and recent increases in notifications have renewed interest in optimising vaccination strategies and improving vaccines. At the biological level, the rationale for maternal pertussis immunization extends beyond passive antibody transfer alone and may also involve broader maternal–infant immune interactions; however, at the population level these mechanisms are operationalized through policy adoption, timing recommendations, and coverage.
Photovoltaic deployment on suitable marginal land in China enables energy and sustainability co-benefits
Abstract The global expansion of photovoltaic systems for decarbonization increasingly occupies land resources and triggers ecological and agricultural trade-offs. Here we propose a marginal-land-based solution to ease these conflicts by integrating multi-criteria suitability constraints with a spatial non-dominated sorting algorithm to prioritize the use of suitable marginal land.
Early kinetics of anti-PLA2R-IgG4 predicts rituximab response in membranous nephropathy: a prospective biomarker study
Abstract While anti-PLA2R-IgG4 is a key biomarker in idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN), the predictive value of its early kinetics for rituximab (RTX) response is unclear. This prospective study enrolled 60 biopsy-proven IMN patients receiving RTX monotherapy. Serum anti-PLA2R-IgG and IgG4 were measured serially via time-resolved fluorescence immunoassay (TRFIA) over 12 months. The primary endpoint was clinical remission at 12 months.

Chaperone-mediated autophagy controlling VEGFR1 degradation contributes cross talk between breast cancer cells and endothelial cells triggering tumorigenesis via the VEGF-VEGFR2 axis | Oncogene
Abstract The reciprocal cross talk between breast cancer cells and the endothelial cells, through the secretion of growth factors, plays a vital role in angiogenesis and tumorigenesis. We previously demonstrated that chaperone-mediated autophagy (CMA) promotes breast cancer tumorigenesis. However, whether the cross talk between cancer cells with endothelial cells plays a role in CMA-mediated breast tumor tumorigenesis is unknown.
Histological analysis of thrombus composition in acute ischemic stroke with large vessel occlusion: impact of r-tPA treatment
Introduction Prior to 2015, as the mechanical thrombectomy (MT) technology remained imperfect and its therapeutic effectiveness had not been extensively validated, there was a paucity of research focusing on the pathological characteristics of thrombi (Staessens et al., 2021). Along with the progress of technology and the publication of the results of pivotal clinical trials, MT has currently emerged as the mainstay treatment for acute large-vessel occlusive ischemic stroke (AIS-LVO).

Concomitant Gallstone Disease was not Associated with Long‐term Outcomes in Ursodeoxycholic Acid‐treated Patients with Primary Biliary Cholangitis
Abstract Aim Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) is a rare disease characterized by intrahepatic cholestasis, whereas gallstone disease (GD) is a common disease. Little is known about the prevalence and impact of GD on the clinical course of PBC. Therefore, we investigated the prevalence and impact of GD on the prognosis of PBC in China. Methods We retrospectively analyzed PBC patients and followed them by reviewing electronic records and a structured, standardized telephone interview.

Optimizing the Cropland Fallow for Water Resource Security in the Groundwater Funnel Area of China
Abstract : Excessive exploitation of groundwater for agricultural irrigation has resulted in groundwater funnel, causing land subsidence, water pollution, and vegetation degradation. The cropland fallow is an effective tool to maintain groundwater by reducing water consumption from agricultural irrigation. However, the cropland fallow program of fallow areas and fallow locations based on the protection of water resources at county level is unclear.

Geraniol-Mediated Suppression of Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress Protects against Cerebral Ischemia–Reperfusion Injury via the PERK-ATF4-CHOP Pathway
Abstract : Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress plays an important role in cerebral ischemia–reperfusion injury (CIRI). Geraniol has antioxidant, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory activities. Studies have shown that geraniol has a protective effect against CIRI in rats, but the exact mechanism is unclear. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the protective mechanism of geraniol against CIRI.

Design of an amorphous and defect-rich CoMoOF layer as a pH-universal catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction
Design of an amorphous and defect-rich CoMoOF layer as a pH-universal catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction† Herein, a brief structural design strategy is proposed to fabricate amorphous CoMo bimetallic oxyfluoride on graphite felt (CoMoOF/GF) for efficient hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Porous and defective CoMoO/GF is employed as a structure-induced template to induce the formation of CoMoOF/GF with more rich defects and a larger pore structure via proper anodic treatment.

Semiconductor-based photocatalysts for photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical water splitting: will we stop with photocorrosion?
Semiconductor-based photocatalysts for photocatalytic and photoelectrochemical water splitting: will we stop with photocorrosion? The status of photocatalytic (PC)/photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting as a promising approach to solar-to-chemical energy conversion has elevated significantly over the past several decades for addressing energy shortage. However, the overall energy conversion efficiency is still relatively poor due to the severe photocorrosion in photosensitive semiconductors.

Downregulation of ATG5-dependent macroautophagy by chaperone-mediated autophagy promotes breast cancer cell metastasis
To determine whether CMA activity is increased in breast tumors or the related metastatic carcinoma in lymph nodes, we assessed LAMP2A expression in 166 breast cancer specimens and 21 normal breast epithelium specimens by immunohistochemical staining. LAMP2A protein expression showed a statistically significant difference between malignant breast cancer tissues, metastatic carcinoma of the lymph nodes and normal tissues.
