Shakedown Hawaii Review | (Good) Trouble in paradise
Back in 2012, Vblank Entertainment and Brian Provinciano struck gold with Retro City Rampage, an 8-bit take on the Grand Theft Auto genre. But this wasn’t just a typical open-world of chaos but one laden with ’80s references, catchy music, and exciting action. Now, Provinciano and his team return with the long-awaited SHAKEDOWN HAWAII, which stays true to that formula. However, this time it has a 16-bit art style and some interesting new business elements.
Shakedown Hawaii release date announced for next month
After spending what felt like an eternity in development, VBlank Entertainment’s successor to Retro City Rampage is about to end its vacation. The 16-bit style Shakedown Hawaii release date is finally near and will be coming out on May 7. It will hit the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation Vita, PC, and PlayStation 4. A release for the Nintendo 3DS will follow later on, as it’s just about done with development. VBlank announced this in a new tweet along with a clip of the game in action.
Shakedown: Hawaii is like getting first class tickets to paradise
It’s rare to get a jolt of energy simply from loading up a video game. Usually, you need to get to the action before you feel your blood pumping, but Shakedown: Hawaii is special. From the moment you load it up, you’ll hear its pitch-perfect synth soundtrack. You’ll see the 16-bit presentation with just the right menu sounds. It just immediately gets you in the mood to tear it up and cause chaos around the island. Once you hit start, things only get better.
Shakedown Hawaii Release Window Confirmed
The Shakedown Hawaii release window has been revealed. The new game from Retro City Rampage developers, Vblank Entertainment, acts as a follow-up to its 2012 indie hit. This time, however, the protagonist will not be a lowly criminal. Instead, he will be a CEO trying to take over the tropical island of Hawaii. Vblank Entertainment’s official blog has revealed the news for the Shakedown Hawaii release. The game will be launched on all announced platforms sometime in Q1 of 2019.
