Resolutions: A little less about "me"
How many of us make New Year’s resolutions, have goals or want something to be different this year. I hope that you do. It is interesting to me when you think about it that most of the time when we make New Year’s resolutions, most are more self-centered in nature. That’s not a entirely bad thing, just an observation.
'You look different'
You look different than others, think differently, feel differently, respond differently, you are immersed in diversity every day of your life. And it’s all for the glory of God! “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of services, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in every one it is the same God at work.
Will you answer the call?
18: As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 20 At once they left their nets and followed him. 21: Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets.
'Do everything without grumbling or arguing'
14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.
Give abundantly
Luke 15:11-24 In the story of the Prodigal son, we see the son who wanted his part of the estate now. Once he received it, he blew it. In verses 14-17 we can tell that that son has lost his identity; he doesn’t even know who he is anymore. Losing his identity causes him to go as low as you can possibly imagine. Think about the historical context here; Jesus was telling this parable to the Pharisees and the tax collectors. The people who valued rules of relationships.
'Go, now' - Quwm yalak!
2 “Go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim to it the message I give you.” Jonah 3:2 What is God emphasizing here? It is the word, “Go”. “Go, go to the great city of Nineveh and proclaim the message I give you.” This word actually translates into two Hebrew words. It’s the word quwm, and the word yalak, and together these words mean “go, now”. Not just go, but go immediately. Go now. Go urgently. Go suddenly. Go now.
God is always speaking
So, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the wilderness.” But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today,’ so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. — Hebrews 3:7-8, 13 Imagine calloused skin — this is what our heart looks like when we say no to God. Our hearts harden, and it is NOT that God isn’t speaking, it’s that we haven’t obeyed what He has spoken to us.
Paul Kelly Releases Christmas Train Video With Vika Bull
Paul Kelly has released a video for his cover of The Bellrays ‘Christmas Train’ but he takes a backseat. The lead vocal is by Vika Bull. “I’m a fan of the band The Bellrays and their raw garage-soul sound. They did a Christmas album in 2008 and Christmas Train is from that album. I thought it would suit Vika perfectly and it turns out I was right. She walked into Soundpark studio, all business, and smashed it by the second take.
