Shanique Yates’s Biography

Shanique Liz Yates is a tenacious, passionate, and dedicated journalist and creator with 7+ years of experience highlighting popular Black culture topics and sharing compelling stories with an impactful reach. She has served as a contributor for various outlets, including AfroTech, Sweet July, Blavity, and more. Shanique has interviewed everyone from Mary J. Blige to Master P, Halle Berry, Denzel Washington, Vince Staples, and Grammy Award Winner Victoria Monet. Additionally, she served as the creator and executive producer of a documentary, Voices Unheard, highlighting her family’s rich farming legacy, which previously aired on aspireTV and is now available on YouTube. Shanique’s colorful storytelling has led her to cover stories across the diaspora on the islands of Grenada and Barbados. In 2024, she was honored as a Breakthrough Woman in Music and Media by NPR and Broccoli City Fest and became a member of the Television Critics Association. The Virginia native, now an Atlanta resident, continues to use her passion and gifts to share stories that inform, uplift, and inspire the culture.
