What was your first job as a journalist?

The middle school newspaper!

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes! My nana used to allow me to use hers to create my own "newspapers" as a child

How is social media changing news?

It's providing real-time news as it happens and people are no longer having to wait by the television to receive breaking news.

Carrie Bradshaw

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To be resourceful to the public, providing them with the facts and keeping them informed.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Via social media or by email

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Mainly Wordpress, any Adobe software, Sprout Social, Google Analytics

Diddy. I'm a huge fan of his work and all that he's done for the hip-hop culture

Why did you become a journalist?

My love for writing and telling stories. As a child I used to interview my parents for magazine companies that I "play" worked for

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Yes! I took photos and wrote articles for the high school newspaper and year book!

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I'm most proud of a piece that I wrote on Jordan Peele's movie "Get Out" because it was my first published article after college

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Tell stories that need to be told and always tell the truth- we are the voice of the people.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Any time of the day works for me, however, morning or evening would be ideal!

What's the best pitch you ever got?

Doing a story on the opening of my nana's former high school that was opened in my hometown as a museum.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

Fortunately, I've never received a bad pitch!

What's your favorite drink?

Ginger-ale

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

At a beach or hanging outdoors with family and/or friends

Huge fan of Essence, Teen Vogue, Ebony, The Washington Post, VIBE, and The Source

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That celebrity news/trends are solely for the tabloids and/or meant to be negative.
