1 Introduction Hip fracture is a global public health concern due to the rapidly growing ageing population. In 2021, there were 761 million people aged 65 years or older with this figure projected to reach more than 1.6 billion globally in 2050 (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs 2023). This has a flow-on effect. A recent report estimated rates for hip fracture almost doubled from 1990 to 2019, reaching 14.2 million worldwide (Dong et al. 2023).

This study identified a disconnected recovery pathway for people post hip fracture. Key findings highlight strategies for improvement underpinned by health empowerment for a shared and connected pathway. Future research utilising strategies formulated from the fragmented recovery pathway post hip fracture is important to the clinical context and supports patient recovery across the care continuum.
