Subchondral H-type blood vessel formation aggravates articular cartilage degeneration through LEP-LEPR axis
Abstract Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic degenerative joint disease characterized by cartilage deterioration that has resulted in severe physical and economic costs for society. Risk factors for osteoarthritis encompass genetic predisposition, mechanical influences, obesity, inflammation, and metabolic problems. Recent reports indicate that the morphological alterations of subchondral bone evolve dynamically with the advancement of osteoarthritis.
Rotamer Density Estimator is an Unsupervised Learner of the Effect of Mutations on Protein-Protein Interaction
Abstract Protein-protein interactions are crucial to many biological processes, and predicting the effect of amino acid mutations on binding is important for protein engineering. While data-driven approaches using deep learning have shown promise, the scarcity of annotated experimental data remains a major challenge. In this work, we propose a new approach that predicts mutational effects on binding using the change in conformational flexibility of the protein-protein interface.

Antigen-Specific Antibody Design and Optimization with Diffusion-Based Generative Models for Protein Structures
New Results doi: https://doi.org/10.1101/2022.07.10.499510 Abstract Antibodies are immune system proteins that protect the host by binding to specific antigens such as viruses and bacteria. The binding between antibodies and antigens are mainly determined by the complementarity-determining regions (CDR) on the antibodies. In this work, we develop a deep generative model that jointly models sequences and structures of CDRs based on diffusion processes and equivariant neural networks.

NeurIPS 2021-10 papers you shouldn’t miss
Image by Author. The 2021 edition of the most beloved conference in Artificial Intelligence is here to end the year with a ‘grand finale’. The growth of the conference hasn’t ceased: last year’s conference — which we also reviewed — had 1899 main-track papers accepted, compared to this year’s 2334. NeurIPS number of publications for the past decade in the main track. Some of the published papers have been on arxiv.org for some time now and have already had an impact.
