How are the buttons sealed in a Casio W800h?
I suspect that the change in what Casio says on WR is driven (at least in part) by the ISO standards. I think the Frogman is the only Casio watch that is ISO Diver 200m WR, which is a different thing than 200m WR. The ISO Diver spec is a whole long list of particular tests and requirements, including a spec for the crowns and setting devices.
1983 Caravelle digital watch
From the 1984 film Cloak and Dagger. #1 · From the 1984 film Cloak and Dagger. I have a Seiko D409-500A digital watch that has a strange issue that I haven't been able to find any solutions for. I recently put a new battery in it, and it turned on fine and gives accurate time, but the display somehow has shifted to the right. For example, the last digit of the date and the...

Just Another Easy Reader Convert
The Timex anniversary edition is my favorite. It honestly feels so nice, very affordable and comfortable. Easy to set the time and just go and the indiglo is a huge plus. I would compare this experience of switching to a Timex easy reader to living in New York City all your life and then spending some time in the country side in Europe. Change of pace to simpler times.

Affordable quality fashion watches: Do they exist? (rant)
I've seen some pretty amazing looking fashion watches made by Structure ($30) or even no-name brands that I would love to own IF they were a little better quality. The main things I am looking for are (1) minimal WR such as 30M, and (2) thick crystal. When I pick up one of these watches with amazing designs and overall appearance, I am always disappointed by this fact. They are not water resistant at all, and when I tap the crystal with my fingernail I can tell how thin it sounds.
Armitron All-Sport and early 80's influence on digital sports watches
Lately I have discovered that the Armitron All-Sport may deserve more credit for influencing other more popular brands, such as Timex Ironman. The Ironman came out in 1986. The All-Sport line began at least 3 years before that. Maybe more. I know because 1983 was the first time I wanted to buy a watch. My dad was with me and he recommended that I buy the All-Sport. I should have trusted his advice. But I just wasn't as familiar with that brand, and I also just preferred the idea of an analog (Timex).
So what happens after the calendar on your digital watch is over?
I've noticed that the settable calendar in my digital waches (needed to automatically figure out the day of the week, given the date) goes up to a certain arbitrary year in the second half of the XXI century. This has got me thinking. Given that these watches will still be kicking by then, will the very old me or whoever will have them, still be able to somehow use the calendar function on the watches? Do calendars repeat with a known year frequency (eg.
Roy's watch (IT Crowd)
The other guy's (Moss) watch is for sure a CA-53 or similar Casio calculator watch. So Roy's watch could very well be a Casio as well. Here's a clearer shot of the watch face. So far I haven't been able to ID the exact model. But keep in mind the show started in 2006, so it could be an early Casio model.Nice show by the way! Somehow I never heard of it before, thanks for the tip. Very funny stuffs indeed. :-d
Digital watch on Happy Days?
#1 · I'm watching the 1950s sitcom and there appears to be a gold digital watch worn by Mr Cunningham in the episode, All I Want For Christmas. Season 10, Episode 10. You can see it clearly in the first scene. Has anyone else noticed this? MONTA Skyquest Review from Watchuseek
The Casio WS-2100H. It's obviously not an Ironman, but it is similar in style to the original model from the 80s. It is also an improvement in that the case is hard resin which will not disintegrate over time, and it also has a Step counter. Does anyone else love this watch?
Why the Coolest Celebrities on the Planet Are Wearing These $20 Casios (linked article)
#2 · Nothing cool about most of those celebs. They are sheep. #3 · Odd!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk #4 · Article should have had a disclaimer: “Paid Advertising”. That was not an unsolicited piece; Casio paid. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk #5 · Well, I'm no naysayer, so I think we should always do what the "celebrities" tell us to. Especially, if they get paid to tell us. If it weren't for celebs, how would we know how to vote?
Smaller watches
#1 · What do you think of men wearing smaller watches? I am talking about what is normally called "midsize" or even "unisex" in their offical descriptions. There are many digital watches in particular. Personally, Sometimes I think they look kind of cool. Especially when they are worn with a long sleeve shirt. I'm not sure why. I've seen some men wearing a midsize Timex Ironman on several occasions.

looking for small watch with countdown timer
#1 · Not sure if this goes here or in the Affordable section but I've gotten good info here in the past so hoping for a repeat. Looking for a small watch with countdown timer; something like a timex expedition or casio W93H, 33 & 36mm. Mayim Bialik and her geeky watch

Could this 1 feature save the digital watch from extinction?
Apparently the step counting feature is the most popular feature of smart watches. (The second most popular being alerts and notifications ) Personally I would rather have an independent watch that can track steps. I would think most people would not want to deal with the hassle of charging a smart watch. What do you think?

Casio A158 - The digital/bracelet classic
I have finally joined the A158 club and I couldn't be happier. This is the 80s style silver digital with the chrome resin case and steel bracelet. The case used to bother me for years until something finally switched in my brain and could see the genius in this design. There is nothing else so light and durable with this amount of style, in my opinion. I know there are many who don't like this watch. All I can say is, you don't know what you are missing.
Casio: The F105W Vs the F91W
Which of these two watches do you prefer? Both of these are original styles from the 80's. I know because two of my best friends wore each one. The 105 now has an Illuminator light (developed in the 90's) however, I have clips of shows from the 80's showing this same exact watch with the same light blue around the dial. The only real functional difference between the two is the lighting method. The F105 also has a slightly thicker case, but other than that they are about the same size.
Big metal watches on nylon straps?
Does anyone else think it looks a little weird to see a large diver or other metal watch on a nylon strap? I grew up seeing nylon straps mainly on dress watches or field/military watches. Usually 18mm was the average. It just seems like the watch deserves something better.

Improvement of the Casio DW-1000 and Timex Atlantis?
Do you think that either of these steel digital watches could be redesigned today by using a black aluminum top bezel instead of a plastic bezel? I always saw the plastic, easily breakable plastic top bezel as either an unfortunate design flaw, or a deliberately built-in obsolescence.
The new affordable Casio W219
But I decided to get a replacement, especially as I had been using the stopwatch function while running at night, and the light on the F91W is famously bad. I've had the AE1200 for a while in the past, and also owned both the GBX100 and GBD200 over the last few years, both of which are pretty good. But I couldn't really see myself using those as true 'beater' watches since they seem a bit delicate and just too nice to wear while bashing through the bush.

Cheap, black & plastic
Right now that's the only kind of watch I'm interested in wearing. Anything else seems pretentious. They really got it right back in the early 80s. Does anyone else feel this way?
Vintage LCD digital button operations
In the late 70s when digital watches were first getting popular I can remember hearing people talk about how it was easy to accidentally reset the time by pressing the wrong button. Then they would need a toothpick to press the recessed at that point. Does anyone remember anything like this...

Gold or two-tone for $75.
Joined Mar 22, 2008 · 2,822 Posts Discussion Starter · #1 · a moment ago Does anyone know a good inexpensive gold or two tone that is $75 or under? I know Timex makes some good ones but the crystals are usually too thin for my taste. I had a great one made by Timex in the late 80s or early 90s. Two tone squarish shape. The only problem with that particular watch was zero water resistance. I'm just looking for something cheap to wear when I'm in a dressy mood around this time of year.
Astounded by watch ignorance
Joined Mar 22, 2008 · 2,765 Posts Discussion Starter · #1 · a moment ago Has anyone else noticed how there is an ignorance about watches among non WIS people? I was looking at a shopping forum on City Data Forum, and a lady was asking about windup watches. Her question was legitimate. Her question was fine but some of the responses. For example, Rolex seems to be the only windup available nowadays so that's obviously not even an option.

90's phenomenon: Swiss Army watch, Victorinox
Joined Feb 17, 2014 · 10,898 Posts I hate to break this to you, but due to a quirk in Swiss law, the terms "Swiss Army" and "Swiss Military" can't be protected terms and the Swiss flag/Swiss Cross has to be in a very specific configuration or shape that's distinct to the brand-- the general idea of "Swiss Flag" isn't something a brand can protect as logo or trademark (think Invicta). That watch is from another "Swiss Army" brand that went out of business 20 years ago, not Victorinox.
The Armitron Instalite
Well, I own one, and like I said, it's not my favorite. My following post is just critical commentary and I don't have any intentions to dump on your topic or enthusiasm about it. I wouldn't post like this if I didn't own one and wear it in my rotation every now and then. I think (assume, really) the design is a carry over from a certain time that maybe like others, I am a little nostalgic about. First and foremost, the pushers are awful.
Imitation leather straps
Joined Mar 22, 2008 · 2,581 Posts Discussion Starter · #1 · 19 m ago A few months ago I purchased a Wal-Mart analog watch for about 8 or 9 dollars, just for the imitation leather strap. I just put it on another watch and I think it looks okay. Very nicely stitched strap. It seems like it would last 100 years. Not to mention the water resistance. I guess it's imitation crocodile, reddish brown. What do you think about imitation leather straps?
Looking for a no-frills military style
I have a vague watch in mind but I don't know what it should look like exactly. Simple, maybe vintage. No date. I kind of like the Benrus Type 1 and 2 styles, so it could be a diver or a field watch. But I also like the idea of DW290 or even F91, all black. Black or olive nylon band.
Resin band on 10 Year Casio just broke
OP--Your last few threads have focused on what these inexpensive marvels CAN'T do. Have you considered what they are capable of, especially considereing the price? My 1300-WH has a lame strap and an inadequate light, BUT, it:--Has an interval timer that allows me to set 8 unique 200 meter split times so that I can accurately pace my mile intervals at the track, even if I want to speed up as I run.
The problem with the W800H (non-G)
This is the near perfect simple, square, tough Casio that sort of falls between the G-Shock and the basic cheap black plastic (F91W, etc). Everything about the watch itself (excluding the band) is perfect: Lightweight, 100M, thick acrylic crystal (for people who prefer that), 10+ year battery. No fancy features or gimmicks. Just a solidly built no-nonsense timepiece. But the problem with the band is that it is definitely NOT a tenplus-year band.
Swim with a 30M screw-down watch?
I'm not sure what you're saying here really. That the reviewer was lying? That he was ill informed and should have trusted the watch in water? That Parnis are water resistant even when they say they aren't particularly??It's not my opinion I'm talking about. It was the guy doing the review who had the watch in his hand. All I did was mention what he said...that the confusing 3atm rating made sense when he discovered the lack of a gasket.
The W-800H (100M Casio)
The only thing that I don't like is the band. The band totally sucks because it can only be replaced with an exact replacement, or a generic Casio style which is a little too narrow. (Basically it's like replacing a band for an F91). I've actually been wearing it for the past 2 weeks because I love the time showing on the stopwatch mode. I just happened to find an exact replacement strap a while back at a Walmart or somewhere which had been sitting in a drawer.
Casio W737 budget watch
Joined Mar 22, 2008 · 2,493 Posts Discussion Starter · #1 · 2 h ago I just finally picked up one of these and I couldn't be happier. 100m, countdown timer, a new chrono alarm feature. It is similar in appearance to the DW5600, but with a more rugged hard resin case that won't deteriorate, in my opinion. Plus, there is a convenient front button light for the 10 year battery style illumination. $19.95 at Walmart.
Resin band on Casio just broke
on one of my older digital watches, a 10 year with vibration alarm, I decided to wear it for the last few days even though I knew the band was probably the most vulnerable part. Sure enough as I was sitting at my desk working yesterday the band literally broke as I was just typing. Very unfortunate since I love the watch. But the way the case is designed makes it very difficult to replace an 18mm band. I couldn't even get a simple nylon strap through the bars.

Joined Mar 22, 2008 · 2,444 Posts Discussion Starter • #1 • a moment ago This was a particular model that I really used to like from the early 2000's. It came in three colors: 1. Green/brown 2. Blue 3. Black/White (velcro band) The case was round with 4 buttons creating a more squarish shape. Curved crystal. I liked this model because of it's (1) comfort, (2) hard resin case. The perfect go-to watch.
