my buddy did it again
#1 · he is still finding birds in the new year & I didnt miss ......this time ! See less
who has shot trap from the old lever pull type traps ?
I had the opportunity to shoot targets off an old lever activated trap in the early 80`s. it was at the University Gun Club outside of Reading , PA. I broke 22 out of 25 & was told it was one of the higher scores that they had that summer. does anyone know if the club still exits ? any pictures of the trap setup ? last I heard was they were more of a rifle & pistol club and had neighbor issues due to a housing development. any pictures of that type of trap house/trap ? thanks
stock bolt hole & mercury reducer ?
a shooting buddy has a 3 year old Browning CXT & wanted to install a recoil reducer. I have a new, never used mercury reducer that is 7/8" in diameter but the stock bolt hole is just a shade over 1/2". he doesnt want to open up the bolt hole so my question is, is there a reducer available in 1/2" diameter ? thanks
it has been 2 years
#1 · 2 years since I ran 25 straight, today this old guy did it again. to bad I missed 2 targets on the 1st trap........
do you shoot in bad weather ?
#1 · what do you use to protect your gun from the weather ? will you travel to shoot when the forecast is bad ? did you know that on a lot of guns the inside of the forearm is not sealed ? also the butt stock. do you take rain gear with you ? I did not go to a shoot 50 miles away due to the forecast (dont get me started on weather forecasts !). I found out it did not rain until around noon at the club I was going to shoot but the forecast called for rain. I did not want to travel far to get rained on.
did you buy a gun online or......
when looking for a new gun, a buddy told me about a good deal online but I am afraid to order because it may not fit me. I have found that I need to shoulder / mount a gun to check the fit. IE: when I bought my CXT, the gun shop had 9 or 10 Brownings on display & only the one CXT fit me. mounting the Beretta`s there, not a one fit me. same thing for the Ceasar Guerini `s. we got a friend into shooting & he found the same thing.
do you eat before or after shooting ?
I only eat after shooting is done for the day. Your not alone. Your body is going to use a percentage of its stored energy to digest your food. Energy that you will not be able to use for shooting. I always used to eat a light lunch when I had to go back and shoot another 100 in the afternoon. Then I ate a nice dinner at the end of the day. To each their own though. break em all Jeff
strange things at a shoot
during a state shoot one year, I was walking to the next bank of traps & I see a few people gathered around a trash barrel. there is a gun stuffed into the barrel, buttstock pointing up. I am not going to pass this up so I stop & start to pull the gun up when I hear a voice say "hold it, that is mine. I am shooting like crap today & felt like throwing the gun away".
what did you forget to take to the shoot ?
I ask this because a shooting buddy forgot to put shells in his shell bag for the shoot on Sunday. this is the 3rd shoot (in 2 years) that he forgot something. 1st time was his vest, 2nd time was his gun. I dont know why he couldnt tell by the weight of his bag that there were no shells in it. BTW, he is always in a hurry......
how soon to call for a target ?
#1 · I was waiting for the squad I was on the shoot when I noticed a shooter mounting his gun before the previous shooter called for the target. a few times it looked like he was going to shoot the target. he also called for his that quickly, he would get the same angel target as the previous shooter. how soon after the previous guy shoots before you mount your gun ?
backround differences ?
for the sporting clay crowd, I shoot at a few clubs where you start in the woods & then end the course in a open field. I find at times the open field targets are a bit hard to judge the distance to the target compared to the targets in the woods. is it due to the open back round or the lack of closeness to the trees & brush ?
shooting vests ?
the shooting vest vs shell pouch thread is interesting , some good comments. I want to know why most vests are dark colored ? isnt wearing dark colored clothing make a person feel warmer ? especially in the summer. after a little research it seems that it depends on the individual if the person feels hotter or cooler. for me I feel warmer so I want a light colored vest but most vests are offered in dark colors.
at what price point will you stop or slow your shooting ?
I shoot 50 targets on Wednesday evenings, 50 or 100 on Saturday and 50 or 100 Sunday. when shells get to $100 a flat I will be shooting a lot less. so what it your price point for slowing or stopping ? if you are a reloader, again what price point will curtail your shooting ?
barrel decals / stickers ?
due to the many shooters using the same model gun, I removed the Browning decal but put a special decal near the muzzle to identify my gun. yesterday at the club we were discussion all the stickers on guns & 1 person stated that after some time the decal / sticker will ruin the finish of the gun. anyone see this occur ? how bad was the finish on the gun ? Thanks
Browning Citori 625 misfire issue
my shooting buddy has a 625 that will not fire the upper barrel after shooting the lower barrel. if the selector is changed to shoot the upper barrel 1st it will fire the lower barrel. I helped him remove the stock & make sure there is no dirt or anything interfering with the inertia block. it still will not fire the upper barrel when selecting the lower barrel 1st. suggestion, hints & help is appreciated.
Browning CXT differences
I have 2 CXT`s, both are less than 2 years old. 1 is a blue receiver & the other a silver receiver. both have an adjustable comb. the silver one needed the comb to be adjusted all the way down for my preferred sight picture & POI. the blue model needed the comb to be trimmed to go lower plus moved to the right for the beads to be aligned for my preferred sight picture & POI. has anyone else noticed different stock dimensions on same model Brownings ?
Bunker trap
#1 · a local club has bunker traps fields & I was thinking of trying it. anyone here have suggestions to help me do somewhat decent at this game, especially since I am not a good shooter ? Thanks.
sticker shock...price for a dog
my Lab recently turned 9 & I noticed he is slowing down when we hunt, hike, etc. so I have started looking for another dog & wow ! almost every litter someone advertised is asking $2000 or more for a pup. what are the prices in your area ?
opinions on FAIR Carrera one HR
I have one of these in 12ga with a 32" barrels & like it, however I do not shoot it as well as my Browning. anyone else have this gun ? opinions ?
new member/shooter here
Hi all. I am an old guy that has been hunting & shooting since the late 60`s. I shot mainly trap for many years with skeet mixed in for a a while but now mostly sporting clays. I am into bird hunting with my dog, a black English Lab but also had Springers & a Brit at one time. I really like my 12 gauge (shooting a Browning CXT) but bird hunt with a 28 gauge SxS. I am interested in a 28 to shoot sporting clays, prefer a SxS.
