Cuisineer Review – A Cozy Restaurant Sim and Action RPG Worth Savouring
As someone who works at a pub to fund his studies so that he eventually doesn’t need to work at a pub, I do love the idea of roguelikes and shop sims a whole lot. Something something capitalism, something something escapism, you know? I’m a huge fan of games like Moonlighter, Recettear, Dave the Diver, and Goblin Vyke because of the variety and replayability they offer on top of being charming games that let me be the capitalist I’ll never be in real life.
Indietail – Potion Shop Simulator
After graduating from Wizard University, you try your luck at finding a job, only to discover that even entry-level jobs demand at least five years’ worth of experience. Fortunately, somewhere in the countryside, one lonely potion shop is hiring. And so, your adventure begins. I love shop sims. I love co-op chaos. I love brewing strange concoctions for strange customers. Potion Shop Simulator seemed tailor-made for me… but sadly, it struggles to deliver on several fronts.
Recettear is still the best Shop Sim I’ve played!
Okay, the other day, I played Banished for the first time in ages and despite having fond memories of it… I didn’t like it. Well, I also have very fond memories of Recettear: An Itemshop’s Tale and I haven’t played that for more years than Banished… so I figured I should give it a go. And well,… I still love it. It’s amazing. Moonlighter took heavy inspiration from Recettear and is still its own thing… because no game can be like Recettear, I believe?
