Weekend admission and outcomes in cancer-associated pulmonary embolism: a cross-sectional national inpatient sample study, 2016–2022
Abstract The “weekend effect” has been variably associated with outcomes in acute pulmonary embolism (PE), but its relevance in cancer-associated PE remains uncertain. Among U.S. hospitalizations for cancer-associated PE, is weekend admission independently associated with in-hospital mortality, and do PE-related interventions differ by day of admission? Retrospective cross-sectional study using the HCUP National Inpatient Sample (2016–2022).
Persistent racial and socioeconomic inequities in mycosis fungoides survival: a population-based study
Abstract Racial disparities in mycosis fungoides (MF) have been described historically, but their persistence in the contemporary era of diagnosis and care remains incompletely characterized. To address this gap, we evaluated survival disparities by race and socioeconomic status (SES) and assessed temporal trends in outcomes. How do we decide between what is right for us and our license and what is right for our patients? Why are we spending so much time doing administrative tasks that aren’t fulfilling — open charts looming over our heads, lunch meetings, prior authorizations?
The True Meaning of Service
The True Meaning of Service In North Philadelphia, where I attended medical school, the majority of adults are functionally illiterate, reading at a 3rd or 4th grade level. This means that when it comes to their health, many patients struggle to read and understand the instructions they receive from their clinicians.
