The Hunger And The Dusk #1 Review: G. Willow Wilson Kicks Off #HotOrcSummer With Lively Twist On Orcs vs. Humans
It is official. The #HotOrcSummer has begun, the first we’ve had in many moons. But what does that mean? What makes it so hot (besides all the global warming)? G. Willow Wilson’s newest comic might just give us the answer. The Hunger And The Dusk is an unusual book for Wilson, who has never really ventured into the realms of true Western High Fantasy (her 2019 fantasy novel The Bird King comes close but sets its action in the 15th century Emirate of Grenada).
Parasomnia: A Beautiful, Twisted Tale
Dreams *potential spoilers ahead* Thinking about dreams always opens up more questions than answers and Parasomnia does a great job exploring the “what if” of dreams. We float between two worlds in this story, one of modern day and one of fantasy and lore. Jerks attack an older man under a bridge and here we begin the journey. We find ourselves in a fantasy world when he passes out. From what I gather, the man under the bridge is the “Phantom” in this fantasy land. This story already intrigues me.
2000 AD Prog 2212: A 100-Page Jumping-On Point [Review]
After 49 issues under its belt, this week sees the final 2000 AD for 2020 with Prog 2212. As a long-standing tradition, this prog (that’s what they call their issues) is extra-sized, with 100 pages of comic book thrills. It’s also an excellent place to jump-on, as it’s full of one-off stories and the beginnings of brand-new ones that will continue into 2021. 2000 AD Prog 2212 cover by Cliff Robinson and Dylan Teague.
2000 AD Prog 2200 Is The Latest Jumping-On Point For New Readers
Looking from the outside in, 2000 AD, the legendary weekly anthology, can appear to be impenetrable to new readers. With up to a dozen stories concurrently running at any given time, it can be hard to jump on in and figure out what’s going on. But a few times a year, the editorial stars align and we get a jumping-on issue that’s jam-packed full of brand-new stories. Luckily, this week sees the release of 2000 AD Prog 2200, which just happens to be one of those issues.
