The Reduction of Group 6-8 Transition Metal Oxides with Hydrogen-From Ore Smelting to Reaction Pathways#
1 Introduction The origin of the word chemistry probably goes back to the Greek word χυμεία, pointing at a metallurgical term (chyma = ingot).[2] In the early times of chemistry, or rather alchemy, the (secrets of the) transformation of ores into metals was one of the main movements. Material processing in the form of ore smelting is therefore chemistry in the most genuine and original sense. Ore smelting is also of central importance in the history of mankind.
Layered manganese bismuth tellurides with GeBi4Te7- and GeBi6Te10-type structures: Towards multifunctional materials
The crystal structures of new layered manganese bismuth tellurides with the compositions Mn0.85(3)Bi4.10(2)Te7 and Mn0.73(4)Bi6.18(2)Te10 were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, including the use of microfocused synchrotron radiation. These analyses reveal that the layered structures deviate from the idealized stoichiometry of the 12P-GeBi4Te7 (space group P3m1) and 51R-GeBi6Te10 (space group R3m) structure types they adopt.
In situ studies on the industrial production process for molybdenum dioxide, MoO2
Research Article Dedicated to Professor Michael Ruck on the Occasion of His 60th Birthday. Abstract In the industrial production of molybdenum the reduction of molybdenum trioxide with hydrogen is a two-step process. In order to get a deeper understanding of the chemistry involved, in situ studies were performed on the thermal behavior of molybdenum trioxide and the first reduction step to molybdenum dioxide.
