Machine Learning Techniques for Vertical Lidar-Based Detection, Characterization, and Classification of Aerosols and Clouds: A Comprehensive Survey
1. Introduction The light detection and ranging (lidar) technique has emerged as a critical tool for understanding the Earth’s atmosphere. It enables retrieval with high temporal and spatial resolution of the vertically resolved optical, microphysical, and geometric properties of aerosols [1,2] and clouds [3,4], which play a key role in modulating the Earth’s radiation budget [5,6], influencing climate change, and affecting air quality [7,8,9,].
Government Restriction Efficiency on Curbing COVID-19 Pandemic Transmission in Western Europe

Assessing the impact of a waste incinerator on the environment using the MAIAC-AOD and AERMOD models
1 Introduction The negative effects of air pollution on our lives have increased significantly. An important environmental risk factor for the development of lung cancer and cardiopulmonary disease is prolonged exposure to fine particle air pollution caused by combustion (Pope et al., 2002).
Retrieval of particle size distribution based on a multi-objective genetic algorithm for multi-wavelength lidar
1 Introduction Atmospheric aerosols are particles suspended in the atmosphere in a solid or liquid state. Aerosol particles have an impact on the Earth’s radiation budget and have the direct and indirect effect. In addition, the aerosols also have a great impact on the air quality and solar energy production (Carslaw et al., 2010; Paramonov et al., 2013; Querol et al., 2013; Wang et al., 2020; Wang et al., 2021a; Wang et al., 2021b; Lolli, 2021).
