Data Slots: trade-offs between privacy concerns and benefits of data-driven solutions - Humanities and Social Sciences Communications
Abstract Cities are increasingly adopting data-driven solutions derived from diverse digital media interactions—from geolocated social media posts and self-tracking apps to CCTV surveillance and transit cards. We define a data-driven solution as an application, service, or device that leverages big data. However, concerns persist about the potential trade-off between the benefits of these solutions and individual privacy.
Adverse childhood experiences and psychological maladjustment in adolescence: The protective role of epistemic trust, mentalized affectivity, and reflective functioning
1 INTRODUCTION Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), which encompass abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction, have detrimental consequences on mental health, including conditions such as depression, suicide, engagement in risky sexual behavior, alcohol, and drug abuse, and overall poor health (Garrido et al., 2018; Hughes et al., 2017).
Big mobility data reveals hyperlocal air pollution exposure disparities in the Bronx, New York - Nature Cities
Abstract Air pollution disproportionately affects socially disadvantaged populations. Our study bridges the existing gap in quantifying mobility-based exposure and its associated disparity issues. We combined the granular mobility of over 500,000 unique anonymized users daily and hyperlocal air pollution data in 100 × 100-m grid cells to quantify disparities in particulate matter exposure in a racially diverse and dense urban area of New York City.
Tools and methods for monitoring the health of the urban greenery - Nature Sustainability
Abstract Urban greenery supports cities in achieving Sustainable Development Goals, but it is increasingly affected by multiple stressors impacting its health. Owing to the high costs of greenery inspection and monitoring, local governments often lack adequate data to effectively manage their urban greenery and prevent damage.
Air Quality Monitoring in Coal-Centric Cities: A Hybrid Approach
1. Introduction Despite ongoing global efforts towards decarbonization, coal continues to hold a significant role in the world’s energy mix [] and remains a crucial economic contributor to numerous cities and towns worldwide. However, the process of mining, processing, and burning coal can have substantial impacts on social, economic, and environmental aspects [,].
Hyperlocal environmental data with a mobile platform in urban environments - Scientific Data
Low-cost sensors are prone to data quality and stability issues. For example, low-cost OPC cannot discern particulate matter from water droplets. Thus, it does not function well in high-humidity environments (85%)19,20. Therefore, it is necessary to perform sensor collocation and calibration to ensure accurate and robust measurements.
IJERPH | Free Full-Text | Investigating Functioning Profile of Adolescents with Anorexia before and during the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Cross-Sectional Study on Mentalizing, Alexithymia, and Impulsiveness
Abstract : Anorexia nervosa (AN) usually emerges in adolescence when important changes occur in cognitive, emotional, and social processes. Mentalizing, alexithymia, and impulsiveness represent key dimensions for the understanding and interpretation of psychological difficulties in AN. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted adolescents with AN, showing a worsening of the disease.
Evaluating the Meteorological Effects on the Urban Form-Air Quality Relationship Using Mobile Monitoring
Predictive models based on mobile measurements have been increasingly used to understand the spatiotemporal variations of intraurban air quality. However, the effects of meteorological factors, which significantly affect the dispersion of air pollution, on the urban-form–air-quality relationship have not been understood on a granular level.
