Sina Bari MD is a Stanford-trained plastic and reconstructive surgeon who has also become a recognized innovator in medical devices and artificial intelligence (MAI). His journey began early, shaped by the loss of his father when he was eight years old. He translated his mother’s computer science textbooks into English during that time, developing strong computer programming skills. By high school, he had mastered advanced UNIX networking and created biological simulation software on early parallel supercomputers. These technical skills supported him financially through college and medical school. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry in 2000 and graduated at the top of his class from medical school in 2006.
After medical school, he was selected as one of three participants in an accelerated residency program at Stanford specializing in plastic and reconstructive surgery, which he completed between 2006 and 2012. During residency, he was involved in the Stanford Bioinnovation program, contributing to developing medical devices to reduce infection during peritoneal dialysis. This experience helped him merge his interests in medicine and technology.
In January 2022, he began his role as Senior Director of Medical Artificial Intelligence at a technology company. Before this, he spent three years creating and leading this division, growing it into a successful operation generating over $4 million in annual recurring revenue. He leads a team of more than 500 professionals who provide high-quality training data for AI applications in radiology, robotic surgery, endoscopy, drug development, and drug safety. Under his guidance, an independent market analysis firm recognized the division as the top healthcare data service provider in 2022. He has also fostered partnerships with three of the world’s largest medical device companies to advance their AI initiatives.
Before this, he served as Chief Innovation Officer at a medical technology company, where he developed AI products for dermatology, ophthalmology, and otolaryngology, combining clinical insight with leadership to support innovation and sales strategies. His first full-time surgical role was at a veterans’ hospital in California, followed by private practice consulting in plastic surgery.
He has authored several publications on plastic surgery topics, including scar prevention and surgical training, and has spoken at national and international conferences on AI and healthcare innovation. Early in life, he was honored as a Supercomputer Challenge winner by the National Science Foundation and has received awards for leadership and research.
Sina Bari, MD, continues to leverage his expertise in medicine and technology to drive progress in artificial intelligence (AI) to improve patient care and healthcare outcomes.
