Chinese vapes just got more dangerous — and they’re targeting our children
I am a mother of four who has spent more than 25 years delivering babies and caring for women across Virginia. Through my work with a nonprofit group advocating for healthy children, I spend a lot of time thinking about what it means to truly protect children, not just at birth, but throughout their lives. So when I learned about a new synthetic chemical quietly making its way into vapes made in China that are marketed to our children, I could not stay quiet about it.
Column: Trust parents and clinicians to decide on maternal vaccines
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready... As a board-certified OB-GYN with more than 25 years of experience, I’ve seen the best health decisions made where medical evidence meets family values—and where parents decide in partnership with their own clinicians. Nowhere is that more important than when we talk about protecting newborns from respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Respiratory viruses pose a real threat to infants, particularly in the first months of life.
The prescription we need? Medicare Advantage and the future of healthy aging
For 25 years, I have stood at the bedside of patients, navigating the complexities of our healthcare system. I have seen the miracles of modern medicine, but I have also seen its glaring failures. We have built a system that is exceptional at treating acute illness yet woefully inadequate at preventing it. That is why CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz’s recent comments regarding Medicare Advantage and healthy food are a necessary step in the fight for a health revolution.

Make America Healthy Again is a federal project, not a state one
President Donald Trump’s commitment to Make America Healthy Again has taken the country by storm. The alarm bells about Americans’ declining health have been ringing. Even before the MAHA movement had a name, Americans began taking a closer look at health — including how they eat and food ingredients. As a medical doctor, I teach and empower wellness daily, one patient at a time. Trump and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F.

Siobhan S. Dunnavant, a Republican, represents Henrico in the Virginia Senate. As we mark one year of the coronavirus global pandemic in Virginia, we also mark 365 days of school closures. On March 16, 2020, Virginia schools were forced to close their doors to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. Those closures were initially supposed to last two weeks; they then turned into a month, and then the rest of the spring semester.

Siobhan Dunnavant, Kirk Cox and Carrie Coyner column: Reopening Virginia's schools requires shifting to "how"
By Siobhan Dunnavant, Kirk Cox and Carrie Coyner We all are parents. We are familiar with the normal anxiety, and also the excitement, that usually sets in this time of year, as questions about school supplies, morning routines and fall sports become daily topics in our homes. This year parents are dealing with a different anxiety — dread, really — forcing them to consider one big question: How?
Siobhan Dunnavant column: Medical marijuana: Making the case at the General Assembly
Legalization of marijuana for both medical and recreational use has gotten a lot of attention nationwide in recent years. Thirty-three states and the District of Columbia have all passed laws in some way reforming their regulation of marijuana. Virginia joined the movement last year with a unanimous vote by our state legislature and our governor’s signature on a new law allowing Virginians unpenalized access to CBD and THCA, the medicinal derivatives of cannabis or marijuana.
