Why did you become a journalist?
Because I was good at writing but not equipped to write novels or poetry - and I needed to make a living
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
No but I made my own magazine at the age of 13 - I still have it

My Myanmar story in the Calgary Herald
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Learn to spell, read "Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation" by Lynne Truss, develop your own style
When's the best time to pitch you?
Now - I'm an empty nester this fall with lots of time for travel
