2020 Minnesota Timberwolves Draft Recap
The 2020 NBA Draft is finally in the books. Better five months late than never, I always say. The Timberwolves entered the night with the No.1, No.17, and No.33 picks in the draft. At the end of the night, the team had acquired both new and familiar faces. Let’s recap the action. No.1 Overall Pick: Anthony Edwards | G| University of Georgia Saying Edwards is a home run swing is an unusual statement about a top pick. He’s 6’5’’ and 225 pounds and can get to the lane at will.
Twins forced to sit Byron Buxton for Game 2, Alex Kirilloff to make big-league debut
MINNEAPOLIS — Facing elimination in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series against Houston, the Twins will be without center fielder Byron Buxton. Buxton, the best center fielder in the big leagues and a difference-maker in the Twins lineup when he’s healthy, is “not at 100 percent,” according to manager Rocco Baldelli. Buxton returned to the lineup in the Twins’ 4-1 loss to the Astros on Tuesday after being hit in the head by a pitch on Friday and experiencing concussion symptoms.
Byron Buxton and Josh Donaldson’s status uncertain for opening round series
Center fielder Byron Buxton and third baseman Josh Donaldson both took part in the Twins’ workout Monday, a day before the team opens its first-round playoff series against the Houston Astros at Target Field. What remains uncertain is whether either will be on the Twins’ roster for the best-of-three series.
Waiting game: Twins hoping Byron Buxton, Josh Donaldson will be ready for playoffs
MINNEAPOLIS — Center fielder Byron Buxton and third baseman Josh Donaldson were both out of the Twins’ lineup for Saturday’s game against Cincinnati, a day after being forced from the field because of injury. The question now is whether one or both will be able to return for the start of the Twins’ best-of-three playoff series on Tuesday? At this point, that’s a guessing game for team officials.
Let's Get Weird: What if the Lynx sign Candace Parker? — A Wolf Among Wolves
One of the more shocking moves last WNBA offseason was the departure of Seimone Augustus to the Los Angeles Sparks. The Sparks had been a longtime rival of the Lynx and Augustus had been a part of so many memorable battles between the two teams. There was a two- or three-year stretch where a Sparks-Lynx Finals felt inevitable and Augustus played a key role in getting Minnesota to that stage.
Revisiting Nikola Pekovic's contract and the 2014 offseason — A Wolf Among Wolves
The 2013 offseason was an important one for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Whether or not franchise cornerstone Kevin Love was planning to opt-out after the following season. This created a sense of desperation. Oklahoma City traded Kevin Martin to Minnesota, reuniting him with coach Rick Adelman. Chase Budinger and Corey Brewer signed as complementary players. Just one unchecked box remained in August of 2013: resigning center Nikola Pekovic.

Why the Twins need Byron Buxton back sooner than Miguel Sano
Before the long-awaited season gets underway Friday in Chicago, the Twins will have difficult decisions to make on whether to bring back Byron Buxton and Miguel Sano, after both players spent much of Summer Camp on the sidelines. Buxton and Sano are very different players, but each has had stretches of stardom in the big leagues while also struggling to consistently stay on the field.
Byron Buxton leaves no doubt on Opening Day: “I’m playing, I’ll be there”
Two days after suffering what appeared to be a potentially significant injury to his left foot and a day after finding out it was “only” a mid-foot sprain, Twins center fielder Byron Buxton made it clear that a week from Friday he will be in the lineup for Minnesota’s opener against the White Sox in Chicago. “I’m playing, I’ll be there,” Buxton said Wednesday during a video conference.

They told us to expect more information tomorrow.
Twins notes: Good signs from Byron Buxton; talent vs depth in a 60-game sprint
How much can you take away from one plate appearance in an intrasquad scrimmage? No matter how small the sample size or the stakes, Byron Buxton’s 13-pitch plate appearance against Jake Odorizzi in Thursday night’s scrimmage at Target Field was impressive. Odorizzi was in his fourth inning of work and appeared to be airing it out against the Twins’ center fielder, who’d already doubled off the wall earlier that night.
Twins center fielder Byron Buxton says he’s healthy and has “no limits”
MINNEAPOLIS — Byron Buxton sat in the home clubhouse in early March in Fort Myers, Fla., discussing the plan that finally would keep him healthy and in the lineup for a full 162-game season. Buxton, whose injury plagued 2019 season basically came to an end on Aug. 1 in Miami when he attempted to catch a triple off the bat of Harold Ramirez and tore the labrum in his left shoulder, had spent the offseason committed to lessening the speed and violence of his collisions with outfield walls.

Twins Show: Byron Buxton and the fascinating intersection of skills and injury
Byron Buxton says he’s studied film this winter of how some great centerfielders interacted with the outfield wall: Ken Griffey Jr., Torii Hunter and Kevin Kiermaier. Will that help him stay healthy all summer in 2020? Derek Wetmore and Judd Zulgad try to untangle the whole thing, on this SKOR North Twins Show. We also sent Judd to Fort Myers, Florida, to figure out how long Nelson Cruz intends to play baseball.

Twins Tidbits: Byron Buxton’s recovery to take another step; Lewis Thorpe optioned
FORT MYERS, FLA. — Twins center fielder Byron Buxton will take another step in his return from shoulder surgery on Tuesday when he is scheduled to take live batting practice at Hammond Stadium. Buxton, who tore the labrum in his left shoulder last Aug. 1 against the Marlins when he crashed into the wall in Miami, has yet to take batting practice or play in a game this spring as the Twins bring him along slowly.
Jumping-off point: Can Byron Buxton really change his daredevil ways in center?
FORT MYERS, FLA. — Byron Buxton knows the answer to the question. He has given it plenty of thought as he has rehabbed from the injuries that have resulted from his daredevil-like ways in center field and this winter he began studying video to try to learn a better way from others. Buxton quickly responds “staying off the wall,” when asked the key to remaining on the field and, thus, giving the Twins the best chance to win games in 2020 and also eventually turn himself into a rich man.
