Guide to Buying a Vintage Citizen 'Bullhead'
I've just put a new page on my blog about buying a 'bullhead' - I see a lot of refurbished pieces for sale so thought it might be helpful to publish some guidance.
30 year old AV system upgrade - Cinema 60 or 50, or don't bother?
Audiolab 8000A integrated stereo amp (2x 60w channels) Yamaha DSP-E800 5.1 sound processor. (DD / DTS 3x 60w channels) Source is CD Player and a Home Theatre PC digitally connected to the DSP. I have never owned a sub, and don't intend to. (The missus won't allow it! ;-) ) I used to always listen to music on CD through the Audiolab with the DSP physically switched out, and only switch in the Yamaha for watching films/ youtube/ Netflix/ etc.
New Vintage Divers watch. Stellaris
#1 · Ive been looking for a vintage Dive style watch recently to round out my collection. And as so often is the case, I found one for good price on ebay. It's a Stellaris Q 17 jewels with a date and 2 way movable bezel. Its apparently the Sears and Roebuck house brand of watches. Im guessing that it is from the 70s and the dial says Japan so it may have a Seiko movement? See less See more Sort by #2 · Well, I have to say that that one looks better on the outside than the inside.
Vintage metal CASIO LCD watches... got any to show?
This is about the extent of my vintage metal CASIO LCD watch collection, outside of G-Shocks. While I've had interest in a few other models, they've been too pricey and difficult to obtain (e.g. DW-3000, TW-7100). Over time my desire for them has waned, so my current collection is about it for me. The DW-2000 was my first, purchased back in 1985. I'd seen the DW-1000 and TW-7000 and liked them both, but the solar cell technology caught my eye with the DW-2000 and I had to have it.
A Blackout-Chronograph Turned Seventy - Dogma Chronograph, cal. Landeron 39
#1 · Landeron's 'classic' had been on my 'Most Wanted'-list for a while already. Clouded, even dwarfed, somehow, by the more glamorous Lemania-, Valjoux- and Venus-calibers, it retails much cheaper, without being any worse - neither functionally nor quality-wise - and being built in numbers, too.
Watches with a dark history - would you buy/ wear one?
@ laikrodukas: I agree, this can become very personal. If I laid hands upon, say, a trench watch once worn by the British soldier who shot my great-grandfather's brother at Passchendaele, I don't see a reason why I wouldn't wear it. If someone killed my brother and was sent to the chair, and his earthly belongings ended in the bay afterwards ... would I bid? Sure. Would I wear it? Less sure - maybe I'd trade it.
Question - What old record player? (Turn table)
Record player?!?!? - So you like taking pictures then? - NO! I like photography. - Oh okay.... :-) I'm putting together a second system in the...

20 year old Mordaunt Short MS10i Classics v's Dali Zensor 1s?
20 years ago (roughly) I bought a pair of Mordaunt Short MS10i Classics for 300 quid. Probably a week's wage at the time. I had the standard MS10i (120 quid) and the Classics were a big extra outlay at the time but a serious upgrade in sound quality.
Question - What old school centre speaker?
My main speakers are Dali Zensor 5 speakers. The rest of my kit is at least 20 years old and is staying put. My centre speaker is a Wharfedale Valdus centre that has served me well for over 20 years.

New centre speaker...?
I'm running old kit that I am very happy with. Audio Lab 8000a married with a Yamaha DEP800. So yeah, I've had this kit for pushing on 20 years now! I have recently just treated myself to a pair of Dali Zensor 5 floor stander speakers. (I haven't gotten them yet).
10+ year old 1000 CD player or MCD6006?
I'm am toying with the idea of changing my CD player. My kit is between 15 and 20 years old now, but I always said to myself that I'd get a CD player...
Audiolab 8000A dilema - upgrade or replace?
I have owned my Audiolab 8000A for the last 16 years. I am very happy with it, but have recently moved homes. And after disconnecting all the interconnects most of the RCA sockets fell apart. There is a company in the UK that will replace all of the RCA sockets and a Stage 1 upgrade (recap with better caps, etc.)
