Sofyan El Bouchtili is a Belgian freelance investigative journalist based in Amsterdam. He reports across a wide range of topics, with a focus on how government policies and institutional decisions affect people’s access to rights, public services and democratic protections.
Recent reporting includes investigations into municipal “aggression policy", academic cooperation with military actors, nitrogen and agricultural policy, and the role of public institutions in upholding human rights.
He frequently collaborates with other journalists and newsrooms, including on cross-border investigations. His work has been published by Investico, Vrij Nederland, De Groene Amsterdammer, Trouw, NOS, VRT, De Standaard and BNR Nieuwsradio.
He studied journalism at Artevelde University of Applied Sciences and has additional training in European and international reporting at the journalism schools in Utrecht (the Netherlands) and Aarhus (Denmark). He previously worked as an online editor at BNR Nieuwsradio and later as an economics editor at NOS.
