My name is Son. I graduated from California State University, Northridge in May 2019 with a B.A. (Journalism, with an emphasis in broadcast). Growing up, my first experience with journalism was from reading the comics section. As I grew older, I gradually shifted my focus to news stories. I was particularly captivated with stories about crimes and those related to my community. My interest grew even more when I learned how to report those amazing stories to my community.
I was fortunate to be selected as a NextGen Radio fellow in March 2019. As part of this project, I produced a multimedia story on a Cuban immigrant who came to the U.S. as part of the Operation Peter Pan.
For the last two semesters CSUN, I was the Executive Producer of Valley View News, an award-winning student newscast. As part of this role, I managed a staff of 20 members. I also produced shows on the real costs of college, the 2018 mid-term election, and Nipsey Hussle's legacy.
At Moorpark College, I co-founded, built, and managed the student publication's first ever multimedia section. At Student Voice, I was responsible in producing, filming and editing the weekly StudentVoiceOnAir podcast and Newsroom Minute newscast.
