Editorial: Atrial Fibrillation (AF) in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF)
Introduction The coexistence of atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is a growing epidemic that challenges our current therapeutic strategies. For too long, we have viewed them as separate entities. However, emerging evidence suggests they often arise from a shared pathophysiological substrate characterized by systemic inflammation, atrial and ventricular remodeling, impaired compliance, and elevated filling pressures.
Editorial: Novel strategies for persistent atrial fibrillation ablation and AF driver mapping
Editorial on the Research Topic Novel strategies for persistent atrial fibrillation ablation and AF driver mapping Although pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is an established and recommended catheter ablation approach for atrial fibrillation (AF), it yields suboptimal clinical outcomes in the setting of persistent AF due to the non-persistence of transmural lesions and unclear mechanisms of extra-pulmonary vein maintenance (1–3).
Anticoagulation after cardioversion of atrial fibrillation: What if we could stop earlier than 4 weeks?
]. Atrial stunning appears to be the highest right after AF termination and resolves within days or weeks depending on AF duration, atrial size, structural heart disease and antiarrhythmic drugs ( Electrical cardioversion (ECV) is a simple, reliable, safe and effective way to terminate atrial fibrillation (AF).
Screening for atrial fibrillation: Does cardiovascular disease reduce the probability of detection?
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia with more than 30 million patients affected worldwide and a considerable proportion remaining undiagnosed [ [1] Turakhia M.P. Shafrin J. Bognar K. Trocio J. Abdulsattar Y. Wiederkehr D. et al. Estimated prevalence of undiagnosed atrial fibrillation in the United States. PLoS One. 2018; 13e0195088 ]. Population ageing is expected to increase AF prevalence and the associated morbidity and mortality in the coming years.
Electrocardiographic sex-related differences in patients with atrial fibrillation: Do they allow a better risk stratification?
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Its prevalence is increasing with the aging of the population and there is a clear need for more reliable diagnosis and improved therapy. Current therapeutic approaches for AF have only moderate efficacy, substantial side effects and eminent limitations due to the complex treatment of concomitant thromboembolism, cardiac ischemia and heart failure [ 1 Dan G.A. Dobrev D.
Cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging for the detection of left atrial remodeling and the prediction of atrial fibrillation ablation success: More than meets the eye

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is associated with changes in left atrial (LA) anatomy, function and substrate [1,2]. LA volumes are related to the success of AF catheter ablation, but the relation to other functional and structural parameters are less well understood. Additionally, ablation for AF could also cause LA functional impairment.

Asymmetrical left atrial remodelling in atrial fibrillation: relation with diastolic dysfunction and long-term ablation outcomes
Aims The association between anatomical left atrial (LA) remodelling and ventricular diastolic dysfunction (DD) in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients is not well studied. We aimed to examine the effect of DD on anatomic LA remodelling and their relation with ablation outcomes.
