Jeffrey Epstein Found Injured in New York City Jail
NEW YORK—Wealthy financier Jeffrey Epstein was found on the floor of his jail cell with bruises on his neck early this week while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, a person familiar with the matter said Thursday. It was not clear whether the injuries were self-inflicted or from an assault, said the person, who was not authorized to discuss the case and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
Stop those gangsters of capitalism
June 4, 2019 by Spenser Rapone Smedley Butler’s oft-cited War is a Racket, based on a speech he gave to veterans at the 1932 Bonus March, has become almost a cliché in the world of antiwar activism. Yet, his incisive critique of perpetual war is still as good an indictment of our times as any. Brigadier General Smedley Butler, 1927 Butler served in a variety of combat roles in the U.S. Marine Corps over his 34-year career, which spanned the period from the Spanish-American War to World War I.
Central American Migrants Are Not Your Enemy
Your commander in chief is lying to you. You should refuse his orders to deploy to the southern US border should you be called to do so. Despite what Trump and his administration are saying, the migrants moving north towards the US are not a threat. These small numbers of people are escaping intense violence. In fact, much of the reason these men and women — with families just like yours and ours — are fleeing their homes is because of the US’s meddling in their countries.
An Open Letter to Active Duty Soldiers: Don’t Deploy to the Southern US Border
The number keeps rising: first 1,000, then the Pentagon officially deploying 5,200, now Trump threatening to send as many as 15,000 US troops to the US-Mexico border—all to confront a caravan of desperate, impoverished, and nonviolent migrants from Central America. If Trump gets his way, the number of US soldiers sent to our southern border to defend against this imagined threat will surpass the amount of troops involved in the initial invasion of Afghanistan in March of 2002.

West Point Can’t Hide Its Reverence for the Confederacy
Charlottesville, Va., triggered a movement. In the wake of a 2017 white nationalist “Unite the Right” rally that left one dead and several injured, activists across the country have worked diligently to exorcise the lingering ghosts of the Confederacy. Most recently, a coalition of anti-racist students at the University of North Carolina brought down a statue of “Silent Sam”—the latest in a series of victories over the chintzy reification of white supremacy.
“We Were Terrorizing Some of the Most Exploited People on Earth”
Interview by Rory Fanning Spenser Rapone was accepted to West Point in 2012, graduated in 2016 — and received an “other than honorable discharge” in June. His expulsion came after a viral tweet showing him — clad in uniform, fist raised — displaying a hat reading, “COMMUNISM WILL WIN.” “I was always told growing up that the US military protects the innocent, that we fight for freedom, truth, and justice,” Rapone tells Rory Fanning in the following interview.
