Phil Foden's mum called a 's**g'
April 9, 2025, 4:21am 1 Mail Online – 7 Apr 25 The vile chant directed at Phil Foden's mother by Manchester United supporters is, sadly, just the latest example of a stomach-churning trend marring the game. Can someone please tell me what a s**g is.
Struggling financially to make a living
Moderating: This is essentially a barelink OP. We don’t generally allow such. If you want to try again, summarized the article a little and maybe include a little about the person in question.
Before the 1975 Year of Intelligence
In 1975 the US Government had the Church Committee and the Rockefeller Commission. They investigated CIA and others dodgy activity. Before 1974 there was some media attention, was there any knowledge about these activities ? Was anyone who published anything pre 1974 considered a kooky conspiracy theorist?
My lips to yours
September 21, 2024, 4:56am 1 In the second Hot Shots film. US President Benson meets the Japan PM. Benson: My intestines were removed during action in the North Atlantic. My bowels were replaced with hemp. Clogs easily. Mishahuru Soto: I hope you feel better. Benson: Well, my lips to yours . What is the meaning of “my lips to yours”? It is said like it’s a quaint American saying that is strange for non-native speakers of English.
Does Trump really want to win?
8 I think a combination of stress and age is getting to him. Running for the presidency has got to be stressful even under the best conditions and it’s exacerbated by Trump’s legal troubles and perhaps knowing that a significant portion of the American population can’t stand him. He’s a malignant narcissist, yes, but I can’t help but think coming into contact with evidence that so many people hate him bothers him a bit.
Jar Jar Binks - do the Jedi just hope he gets killed
At the start of the Phantom Menace the Jedi don’t try to save him or help him. Multiple times he almost gets killed. Do they just quietly hope something will kill him?
JD Vance couch story
August 14, 2024, 8:38pm 1 I don’t understand how this made up story by one guy makes it to international news. Don’t people say bizarre untrue things on social media all the time? Can someone explain the process of one tweet becoming an international sensation. Was the guy tweeting a movie star? Can my tweet saying Camilla Harrison enjoyed sitting on a chair become a meme?
Calling someone a ‘Terrorist’
11 In an under 17 soccer game a boy was sent off for calling an opponent a Terorist. Then he got a six week suspension. Is calling someone a terrorist similar to calling someone a f- word or n- word? Is it that unforgivable? Or is just like calling someone a mewling quim? Maybe? If I were to call my niece a little monkey nobody would bat an eye. If I were to refer to the black kid she was playing with at the playground a monkey that might be construed in a negative manner.
Superman II question. 1980 Film
When he is talking to Lara Lor-Van, is she AI? The Film seems to imply that Superman is actually talking to the real Lara Lor-Van ( his mother). I’ve always assumed she was AI, programmed to respond as Lara would. Either that, or her “engrams” were transferred to a computer while she was alive, as with M5 in that episode of Star Trek TOS where the Enterprise ran amok.
Hand hygiene helps prevent COVID spread-not
I came across an Australian government website still promoting this- hand hygiene helps prevent COVID spread. healthdirect.gov.au There are many ways to reduce your risk of COVID-19, including physical distancing, wearing a mask, hand washing and getting vaccinated. Obviously I know the importance of hand hygiene in general. I was amazed when it was discovered that before 2020 many people were not washing hands at all. Surely it is unambiguous that hand washing was not a factor in COVID.
Back to the Future- Marty wakes to a new future - question
1 At the ending of Back to the Future, Marty says he’s not going to the lake as the car is ‘wrecked’. All tha family react as if he’s taking about the BMW. They rush out and see it is fine. But they know Marty has the Toyota truck- why would they not think he meant his car is wrecked’? I know he says car not “truck” but he’s talking about going up to the lake- he wouldn’t be going in his Dad’s BMW. So is this a mistake or bad script writing?
