Prop Speed vs. Prop Coat
Discussion in 'General Yachting Discussion' started by SplashFl, . Until "sandblasting" my props at the Hillsboro Inlet shoaling, the Prop Speed coating was holding up well, but instead of using it again the yard applied Prop Coat; claiming it was 100% Zinc, less money, and did a better job at keeping off growth. Water freezing ?
Discussion in 'Engines' started by SplashFl, . You need to be registered and signed in to view this content. Sure is cold out. Should there be concern for engine or fresh water freezing damage here in South Florida or will the higher temperature canal water keep the ER from getting too cold this evening ? Recently had main engines flushed and filled but no antifreeze. Your name or email address: Do you already have an account? No, create an account now. Yes, my password is: Stay logged in

Water pipe fitting
Discussion in 'Technical Discussion' started by SplashFl, . You need to be registered and signed in to view this content. Found another one like this also cracked. Who knows what type and who sells them ? Those are later Polybutylene (PB) fittings. I have a few if needed but safer to replace with the newer press in (shark-byte) fittings. Do yourself a favor and get rid of those every time you have to replace one. I’ve had a number of them crack at random.
Need advice on issues before purchasing a boat
Thank you all for the replies and info. The engines are Volvo Penta D12 715. They both have just under 1100 hours each. I'm hoping it's something as simple as salt buildup on the heat exchange. But wanted your opinions. The oil samples all came back with zero issues. Everything was marked green. Regarding the AC. Below deck, it works perfectly. The control panel on the flybridge doesn't turn on or respond. No breakers trip.
Oil X-CHANGE-R Manual_ Model 946DT
Discussion in 'Technical Discussion' started by SplashFl, . You need to be registered and signed in to view this content. Ran across this manual in case anyone might need it. The company is long gone but I found after replacing the 2 old impellers with new Nitrile ones it pumps great. Problem uploading here is I'm getting a warning, File Too Large, so if anyone knows a fix or provides an email or upload site I'll send it. Clay owns the last of the company.

Finger turns black when inserted after cap removed and tank appears empty. Noticed the small hose from the top of the valve cover had hot fluid running out of the hose and after about 10 min. before shut down, had filled a quart jug about 1/2.

What is this old thing ?
Discussion in 'Technical Discussion' started by SplashFl, . You need to be registered and signed in to view this content. Some type of fuel pump ? Seems one of the two lines goes to a fuel tank and the other just a 2 ft. line with a weird (see 2nd photo) to me fitting on the end. Also has a manual switch mounted below it and when turned on makes a clicking sound. Seems like a lot if only to top off Racor fuel filters when changing ?

Looking At Buying A Broward
Discussion in 'Broward Yacht' started by Freebird, . Been a while since I’ve posted on this forum but thought it might give me some first hand knowledge vs regurgitated Internet war stories. I’m a Hatteras guy, and have zero experience with Broward.
Hynautic Hydrauliс Controls
Discussion in 'Technical Discussion' started by SplashFl, . You need to be registered and signed in to view this content. Been wondering why all 3 sets of controls (throttle & gears on tower, bridge, & cockpit) feel stiffer then I suspect they should be ? The air pressure tank has about 50 psi but no idea what fluid the system may contain nor what type it should have ? Don't want to mess with it till more is known. I have single station Hynautic controls on my 95 vintage Viking.

Adding Stairs from Aft Deck to Swim Platform
Hello Pauli Welcome to yacht Forums Puppies need long and easy steps. Some puppies can deal with steep stair cases but the family member does age and will need longer & shorter steps so plan on this now. I have witnessed whole stair cases spanning the whole transom sideways. This idea was for the puppies originally but after knee surgery, the owner really appreciated the design, Yes, people need help also. This is all custom design and no one answer may be of benefit to your transom.

Bahamas_Overboard Discharge ?
Discussion in 'General Yachting Discussion' started by SplashFl, . You need to be registered and signed in to view this content. Off the US, at 3 miles, three way holding tank valves can switch to overboard. Anyone know the rule in the Bahamas ? Same rules in the Bahamas although not enforced. Valves remain open once we clear US waters. few marinas have working pump outs and unfortunately most popular anchorages like Georgetown don’t have pump out boats.
Engine room vent filters
On my 40' Cabo convertible, I recently removed my engine room air filters to wash them out and would like to find replacement or possibly just make new ones. The filter assembly frames are plastic/StarBoard type material stapled together with a scotch bright type mesh between.

1973 Bertram 46 convertible

Has anyone repowered a 1973 Bertram 46.6 Convertible with Caterpillars 3196 with twin disc gears ?? Hard call to make. Some of us still luv the 3196. 3406 would be my first recommendation. Remember, unless your going to change the clutch and ratio, your wanting the same RPM range of operation you have now.
Unknown outboard powered sportfish
Backing down on a Big-Un, I don't have any experience with; But, I can imagine chasing a monster down forward at an angle may be an idea. Again, on this boat above, that deck house trim bulkhead will be a hinder using that theory. It is a good looking boat. I fear, not a great fishing boat for a few reasons. Probably just fair/good for coastal kings & mahi-mahi. A new 42 from this builder is near $1.6 meg.

Knock-off shadow vessel?
It raises a couple questions for me. First, it makes me curious about what the IP law is today on yacht design. I know certain hull designs can be patented. I'm not sure about how/if the law addresses the aesthetic of the superstructure. But, I'm even more curious how any yacht today could be built by a European yard, painted in the colors of the Russian flag and named with the anglicized Russian word for shark...and not attract the unwanted attention of the sanctioning agencies.

Domestic Oceanair blinds
Discussion in 'General Yachting Discussion' started by Pascal, . Does anyone knows who sells Oceanair blinds in sofl? They have a unique way of folding when retracting to accommodate odd shape windows and can also be mounted on slanted forward windows. Looks like the Oceanair is brand nr 1234 bought out but the Evil Empire aka Dometic but their website doesn’t show a sofl dealer for blinds. Here's all I've got. I dealt with them in 2018. Good luck on your search. . .
Talk tuna towers
Discussion in 'General Yachting Discussion' started by Fountain333, . Looking for tuna tower manufactures and also insights from guys that have added them on their boats. Ive looked over the net for builders and most of the photo galleries they have dont show the center steps going up. Im wondering why most of them dont have the center steps? Is there any other downfall other then possibly cost? Looking to possibly add it to a 65 sport fish with a enclosed bridge.
