Cookie Consent Headaches Across Subdomains
Recently, I ran into a frustrating issue with cookie consent banners popping up on subdomains (moving from subdomain1.example.com to subdomain2.example.com for example). The problem? Our cookie policy covered the entire top-level domain (TLD), so the second banner after consent was already given was redundant. We were using a Cookie Management Platform (CMP), and this behavior only happened on a few browsers (Safari, Firefox, Brave, you know the ones).
Geoff Ward - Inside Hockey
by Neal McHale | Aug 1, 2020 | Calgary Flames, Homepage, NHL Solution resolved in the case of Milan Lucic and James Neal, whose all-Alberta exchange was just another thing further complicated by COVID-19. Edmonton must send a third rounder in the 2020 or 2021 Draft, the decision to be made at the draft and round within. The... by Stefan Wright | Dec 12, 2019 | Calgary Flames, NHL It came 4 minutes into the third period of Thursday night’s matchup against the Buffalo Sabres.
Flames Salvage Crucial Two Points Against Blue Jackets
It was evident that the Calgary Flames and the Columbus Blue Jackets are both fighting for their playoff lives Wednesday night in Calgary. Both teams were strong defensively, and though the Flames started slow, falling behind 2-0 in the opening 10 minutes, it was the Jackets who finished slow, allowing two goals in the final 10 minutes and the eventual game winner in overtime. Both the Flames and the Jackets are sitting precariously within their respective playoff pictures.
Flames Five-Goal Third Lifts Them Past Ducks
Coming off a disappointing homecoming on Saturday night, the Calgary Flames were looking to rebound against a struggling Anaheim Ducks team. Led my third line winger Andrew Mangiapane, who recorded his first career hat trick and added an assist to the cause, the Flames got the result they were after. On a night that saw two divisional rivals win, the 6-4 win was crucially important for a Flames team who simply cannot lose games to non-playoff teams the rest of the way.
Flames Faltering at Home
The Pacific division is in complete chaos at the moment, with the top four teams in the division stumbling their respective ways through it. The Edmonton Oilers are missing three of their top five scorers. The Golden Knights are 5-5 over their last ten games, and the Vancouver Canucks are holding their own––barely––at the top of the division.
Flames Remain Woefully Inconsistent
Exactly half-way through their season the Calgary Flames turned in one of their most disappointing efforts of the season. The 5-2 loss to the Vancouver Canucks cannot come as a surprise to anyone who has followed the team through their first 41 games. Inconsistency is Calgary’s team brand so far this year. After playing their best game of the season on Friday night against the Edmonton Oilers, the Flames came out Sunday night and played a flat, frustrating game against the Canucks.
Seven Straight for the Flames and New Coach Geoff Ward
Hosting the Toronto Maple Leafs Thursday night, the Calgary Flames continued their win streak to seven games. At a crucial time of the season, the Flames are proving night in and night out that they want to contend this year. Games like Thursday night’s point teams in the right direction for the second half of the season and coach Geoff Ward was impressed with the teams approach to the game. “Our team’s been pretty resilient and tonight was no different.
Flames Frustrated Again, but Trending in Right Direction
After rattling off seven straight wins, the Flames have come back down to earth after losing their last two games at home. They’ve been outscored 8-1 in those two games, but the lopsided scores are not an accurate reflection of the hockey being played by a newly-invigorated Flames team. Three of those eight were empty netters and the Flames have a handful of opportunities that haven’t gone their way.
Flames Find Odd Fit
It came 4 minutes into the third period of Thursday night’s matchup against the Buffalo Sabres. The moment many Flames fans have been waiting seemingly forever for; Milan Lucic officially has his first goal as a Calgary Flame. Not only that, but the goal also proved to be the game-winner after the Flames fell asleep with 5 minutes remaining. On a night that started with bizarre line pairings, the Flames rewarded their new coach Geoff Ward with his third consecutive win.
Flames Coach Bill Peters in Hot Water over Alleged Racist Comments
While the Flames were battling the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 3-2 overtime loss on Monday night, a very different dilemma was unfolding off the ice for head coach Bill Peters. Peters has been accused of directing racial slurs at former player Akim Aliu back in the 2009-10 season. Aliu’s recounting of the incident is below and comes to light via the recent firing of Toronto head coach Mike Babcock. Peters was an assistant on Babcock’s coaching staff with the Detroit Red Wings from 2011-2014.
Flames Falter After Comeback Against Blues
The Calgary Flames have the third period figured out. The first two periods, not so much. Facing a strong St. Louis Blues team on Saturday night, they faltered through the first two periods, riding the strong play of David Rittich to a 2-0 deficit before coming back, once again, in the third period. Forcing overtime, the Flames controlled the puck for the first minute before a turnover in the neutral zone caught T.J Brodie flat-footed, resulting in a two-minute holding penalty.
Flames Dust Devils
The Calgary Flames hosted the New Jersey Devils last week in a matchup that pitted two underperforming teams against one another. Sitting last in the eastern conference, the Devils have a strong young roster firing in the wrong directions. That lack of team direction was on full display Thursday night. Despite taking an early 1-0 lead, the Devils faltered in the second period, surrendering four goals to the Flames and entering the third trailing 4-2.
Flames Team-First Mentality Shuts Down Wings
The Calgary Flames had a clear gameplan going into Thursday night’s tilt against the Detroit Red Wings; play as a team for a full sixty minutes. After a lethargic start to the season, the Flames were looking for a full team effort on Thursday night and got one starting from the crease out. The dangerously quick Wings came flying out of the gate and Flames netminder David Rittich had to be sharp early, making a big save off Dylan Larkin in the first minute.
Calgary Flames Searching for Vision in 2019-20
The Calgary Flames lack a team vision. Not to be confused with a long-term goal – that’s rather obvious and league-wide. No, the Flames lack a vision in terms of how they play. How they need to play to achieve success past the regular season. A team vision is a mentality that everyone in the organization adopts–something not all that different from a company culture. Never was this void more clear than the Flames’ last game of the 2019 season.
Calgary Flames Need David Rittich to Rule the Crease
Remember Karri Ramo, Calgary Flames fans? How about Joey MacDonald? Joni Ortio? Of course we all remember Brian Elliott. Since Mikka Kiprusoff retired after the 2012-13 season, the Flames have had 10 goaltenders who have played 10 or more games in the Flaming C. Obviously this is not a path towards success, but consistent goaltending is a rare commodity in the NHL.
Sam Bennett's Bridge Contract Means High Expectations
Calgary Flames forward Sam Bennett signed a two-year bridge deal last week, earning an AAV of $2.55 million per season. For a Flames team tight against the salary cap and a young forward looking to capitalize on the deal, this could work out to be a perfect fit. The onus on Bennett to earn his big payout in two years falls to his ability to score while providing responsible, physical, third line minutes.
James Neal Swapped for Milan Lucic in Bizarre Alberta Trade
James Neal will no longer be a Calgary Flame. Flames general manager Brad Treliving and his Oilers counterpart Ken Holland agreed to a rather confusing trade on Friday, swapping Neal for Milan Lucic and a third-round conditional pick. More confusing to Flames fans is the fact that Edmonton is only retaining 12.5% of Lucic’s $6 million contract and early reports claim that his no-movement clause means the Flames need to protect him in the upcoming Seattle expansion draft.
Calgary Flames' Mikael Backlund Enters His Most Important NHL Season
By Stefan Wright July 18th, 2019 It’s been a gradual climb for Mikael Backlund over his 11-year career. After going 24th overall in the 2007 Entry Draft, he has steadily improved year after year and is now one of the best two-way centres in the NHL. This increase in reliability also comes with more responsibility.
