Crimes, terreur, répression: Amazon.ca: BARTOSEK, KAREL, Courtois, Stephane, MARGOLIN, JEAN LOUIS, PANNE, JEAN-LOUIS, Werth, Nicolas: Books
I would recommend "The Black book..." for anyone who is interested in human rights issues... anyone who is human, indeed. In America, we are too ignorant as a whole of world affairs. The only time we even seem to think about foreign countries are when big news stories hit, like the recent spy plane affair, or natural disasters in India or Honduras... This book is an excellent tome, very readable, and very shocking.

When it was first published in France in 1997, Le livre noir du Communisme touched off a storm of controversy that continues to rage today. Even some of his contributors shied away from chief editor Stéphane Courtois's conclusion that Communism, in all its many forms, was morally no better than Nazism; the two totalitarian systems, Courtois argued, were far better at killing than at governing, as the world learned to its sorrow.
The Black Book of Communism: Crimes, Terror, Repression|Hardcover
To the extent that the book has a literary style, it is that of the recording angel; this is the body count of a colossal, wholly failed social, economic, political and psychological experiment. It is a criminal indictment, and it rightly reads like one.
