Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

Staff writer for Sidelines, the campus newspaper at Middle Tennessee State University.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes.

How is social media changing news?

People no longer have to train as professional journalists to have an impact on the public by sharing information and insights.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Email.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

MacBook Pro, iPhone 6, Google, a Facebook group of fellow writers.

Who do you wish followed you?

Meg Cabot or Stephen King.

Why did you become a journalist?

I love writing in any form.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I was on the staff but in three years, we never put an issue together. The faculty just never followed through on it.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. every day, including weekends.
