Have you ever used a typewriter?

I grew up on keyboards, but yes, I have used a typewriter. There is something so satisfying about the clacking of the keys.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Being a journalist means bringing accurate information to the public to educate and empower them.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

I prefer to be pitched by email.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Word, Scrivener, Google Scholar, and the Merriam Webster dictionary.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Any time between 9 am and 5 pm EST.

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

The worse pitch I ever got was for a fabulous holiday-themed story a few days before the holiday when it was too late to make it happen.

What's your favorite drink?

Diet Coke

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Behind a camera lens.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

I love reading Science Daily and National Geographic.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That animals are just furry humans when really they perceive and respond to the world in their own unique ways.
