The Best Elena Ferrante Books
recommended by Sarah Chihaya and Merve Emre The Ferrante Letters: An Experiment in Collective Criticism by Jill Richards, Katherine Hill, Merve Emre & Sarah Chihaya From her early novellas to the Neapolitan quartet, the elusive Elena Ferrante has achieved deserved superstar status for the compulsively readable, addictive quality of her writing.
The Best Iris Murdoch Books
recommended by Miles Leeson Iris Murdoch: A Centenary Celebration by Miles Leeson Iris Murdoch gained fame as a novelist, a philosopher and, perhaps most prominently of all, for her public and rapid decline (and posthumous immortalization by her husband John Bayley) after an early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. But now, more than a century on from her birth, the attention is returning back to her work.
The Best Books on Witches
Tell us about your logic of choosing these books, because many of them are not directly about witches or witchcraft. No, not directly. They’re about how we apprehend moments where the supernatural pokes its nose into our lives when we didn’t want it to. They’re about human irrationality, which is the subject of virtually all the research I do, and the way in which the more people think they have rational control over their lives, the less rational control they actually possess.
The Best George Orwell Books
Before we discuss the books you’ve chosen, could you tell us a bit about who George Orwell, born Eric Arthur Blair, was? In some ways, he was a very conventional product of his time. He was born in 1903 into what with characteristic precision he called “the lower-upper-middle classes” of British life. His father was a colonial civil servant who worked in the East. The definition that he gave of himself was that most of his expertise was theoretical.
Sylvia Plath Books
recommended by Tim Kendall Sylvia Plath: A Critical Study by Tim Kendall Though biographical sensation has often diverted attention from her work, Sylvia Plath remains one of the finest lyric poets of the twentieth century, argues Professor Tim Kendall, Academic Director of Arts and Culture at Exeter and author of Sylvia Plath: A Critical Study.
The Best Books on Dickens and Christmas
Why should we turn to Dickens at Christmastime? Starting with A Christmas Carol, or perhaps even earlier with the Christmas episode in The Pickwick Papers, Dickens has been seen as someone who not only describes the importance of generosity and kindness, but also exemplifies it in his own writing. He writes in a way which always gives you more of what you want—or more of what you think you want. It’s like a series of presents that never stop coming.

Today for entertainment, teens hang out in the Sheetz and Food Lion parking lots. This is because there are only a few entertainment activities available to teens and families in the Elkin-Jonesville area. Teens don’t think there is enough to do in the Elkin-Jonesville area.
Archbishop blesses new Bellevue Marquette Catholic High School
BELLEVUE, Iowa -- As people of all ages lined the hallways, Archbishop Michael Jackels on Thursday led visitors at the new Bellevue Marquette Catholic High School in a prayer over the public announcement system. "We dedicate this building to the education of youth, to the progress of the sciences, and to learning," Jackels said. Following the prayer, Jackels walked through the building, blessing the rooms as he went.
